Re: Bread -- what's your favorite?

I love a round of rye bread dug out in the middle with dill dip in there and then dip the pieces of bread into the dip. I love Vienna bread, pumpernick and 12 grain bread. Where I live there is no good bread like where I used to live and that is probably a good thing.

I love bread, but try to limit myself to one slice a day, due to the wheat belly phenomenon.

What is the wheat belly phenomenon?

Bread tends to cause bloating, and it can cause digestive problems in general. Technically, grains entered our diet fairly recently in human history, and it's not all that nutritious. The average bread has a ton of carbs, and it hits the bloodstream like white sugar. That in turn spurs insulin production, and that means a long list of bad things from fat creation to brain issues to higher cholesterol.

If I eat bread, it's Eureka's Grainiac. It comes down to 10 carb grams per slice, and it doesn't have any weird ingredients.

Italian for sure, and the best is from the local bakery in the city I was from. No butter needed, it was SO good it was like cake! But since I live here now I have to settle for this bakeries Italian bread.

Rye and sourdough. But I haven't met a bread I don't like. I do watch my intake, though.
