This seems to be a bit of an overstatement. What do you feel is an appropriate punishment for the subject evil doer?

Fifty years, eligible for parole after 20.

Thank God that's not an option.

Fine. Fortunately for our society, most people with nut job mothers and bitter older brothers don't set out to commit mass murder. I also believe myself to be a fair-minded person and believe he showed his true colors when he ran over said brother to save himself. If he was deep-down a good person and so heavily under the influence of the brother, I don't believe he would have done that. And he would have surrendered right away.
In the end, he made a very bad choice against the country and people who gave him refuge and tried to help him get a fresh start. He will have many years in prison to weigh whether that choice was the right one.

His brother was dead when he was driven over so I can't see how that is an indication of anything. The accused was a teenager, still is, so maybe judging him as a grown reasoning adult seems wrong to me. There is also the culture where an older brother is to be obeyed by younger siblings.
