Borders apparently contracted with Rosetta Stone to sell their language software at their retail stores. I got German Level 1-5 for almost half price yesterday as part of their liquidation sale. I have been researching it and wanting Rosetta Stone for years, so I knew this was a once in a lifetime sweetheart deal. Or so I thought. I didn't open the package, but took it home and looked up the product number. I was stunned to learn I had bought an almost 2 year old obsolete product that is not compatible with my new Windows 7. You can get this same product from 2009 on Amazon or Ebay - for half of what I just paid for it brand new. I was physically sick! It would be as if someone sold you a retired Apple iPad in a year, and passed it off as an iPad 2.
I went back to the store, but they refused to take it back. They claimed Rosetta Stone never told them to discount, send back or otherwise separate out the outdated version. They told me to call Rosetta Stone directly, and I was told by them they don't sell the old 2009 anymore, and wouldn't take it back or upgrade it to the new version.
I finally called Borders and talked with a very nice lady who called the store to confirm my story. I told her it felt like I had been scammed out of over $400, stuck with a useless, old, obsolete product sold to me on the pretext that it was the latest version. She is sending my tale of woe to the dispute resolution team, and I should hear from them within 3 days. I am praying I can get my money back (they only sold Rosetta Stone in the retail stores, not online). I will never, never entertain the idea of getting RS again, no matter how wonderful people say it is. What was done to me is just wrong.
