Apparently, they aren't teaching enough "common sense" in schools these days. Wild animals are WILD, whether you know about hiking or not. Sorry to hear about this, and I hope HE didn't have children.

Also sad ,then they find the bear, and kill it,all because a person went where they should not have gone.

I just cannot understand why people donot obey rules such as never hiking alone, ALWAYS carry bear spray etc.
He was working for a medic company in the park. I certainly feel sad for his family to hear of his death, especially this way.

There's no reason to mention this graphic and tragic detail!!
It doesn't help the reader in any way.
And he wasn't just a body.

Yosemite? A Grizzly? Maybe a black bear or another family of bear but a Grizzly? They were made extinct by early European explorers. There was talk this last Spring of re-introducing them to California but it was just that, talk.

Of course it is sad that the hiker passed. That said, I'm going to re-read Faulkner's "The Bear". It is a lament to the loss of the wilderness and what that, in turn, does to the common sense of man.

I only go to places with room service. Seriously though, if you go hiking in the wilderness, you should educate yourself and be well prepared. Our local fire department is constantly plucking inexperienced hikers off the mountains when they find themselves in trouble.

we hike a lot and son the cop hikes every weekend up in the high country.......the Number 1 thing you do is make noise, lots of noise.....my hiking stick has bells on it.......the best way to meet a bad end with a bear is to just kinda stumble upon it........if they hear you coming they move off........a black bear is more likely to go after you then a grizzly............................raven

This thread is regarding Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, not Yosemite National Park in California.
