I remember my mom watched him every Saturday morning on PBS. She didn't paint at all--but she just liked watching him create something.

And what a great idea Donna had........to 'practice' brushstrokes using the clear plastic overlay. ..............p.s. (Again): When I was much , much younger, I used to sew, try to paint, do crafts, work, study...........I really can't figure out how I did all of those things and how I found the time without feeling tired or overwhelmed. What happened? (To me, anyway)
Romary, you sound like me! I was a single mom, worked, took care of a house and yard and of course, everything that goes with all that. And I read books, all the time (late at night). But it seems I just never had the time or energy left over to do some of the things I really wanted to do. I did try Donna Dewberry and practiced on a big white pad of paper -- a friend told me once that some of mine looked better than Donna's! (I think she was just being nice.)
But now that I'm retired, I don't know how I would have time to work! It seems I have so much to do helping take care of family, caring for my cats (one with kidney disease and 3x weekly to vet, meds, etc.), still taking care of house and yard, I don't know how I did what I did as a single mom. I guess it's just that I was so much younger -- admitting that is a sure way of admitting I can't do what I once could - age does take its toll!

Bob Ross had some beautiful paintings outside of his show. I don't think he was terrible painter; the show was 1/2 hour and his technique was the main theme, not so much his finished product. I doubt he painted that quickly when painting in private.
Very calm and peaceful show; used to watch Bob all the time and still like to see a rerun now and then when aired.

p.s. I used to read until midnight/1 am or 2 am, too!

ITA about his voice - it was so mesmerizing! i could not look away from the tv if i wanted to. i was flipping through channels a few weeks ago and saw PBS was showing it. and yes - his "happy trees" would always make me smile.
