@godi,

Gosh! He/she is a beauty and what a fantastic shot you got! Such a very beautiful perriwinkle blue!

That's a joy to see isn't it?

Re: Bluebird came to visit.

[ Edited ]

That looks like a scrub jay, or wood house jay.  In California that's what they look like anyway.  One of my favorite birds, with the crow.  I have 3 scrub jays that have been coming for a few years.the photo you took the jay is really blue, nice shot ! ! Bobby the older one was a fledgling when he arrived, I fed him from my hand.  Grown now with kids, and he just says hi.  Ever since he met Lila, his wife she doesn't let him hang with me.  Jealous

Beautiful pictures!

We have lived in our home for decades, feeding the birds,  but never able to attract bluebirds to our CT yard.  We read it was possible to attract them if we put in a simple wooden bird box or two specifically designed for blue birds.  Mind you, we already had other birdhouses scattered around our yard.

Well, one recommended little box on a pole installed and guess what?  We now get blue birds.  They are so beautiful.

@godi

I'm sorry, that's not a bluebird in my opinion, it's too big, not an eastern bluebird anyway.

We raise about 15 Eastern bluebird babies every breeding season, so far this year we've had 5 raised and fledged, with another 5 hatched and ready to fledge any day now.

We have very few bluebirds that come and we want to attract them.  We put up two bluebird houses with the proper size hole as they are particular in that respect.  A couple have stopped by to investigate them, but none have made a nest.

@KathyM23

That's the most important step, for them to take interest in the box, so don't give up yet, the nest building should follow soon, usually a couple of weeks after showing interest.

Make sure the entrance to your box is facing east and that the 2 boxes aren't too close together.

If they're too close together, the couple from box #1 will also start a 'fake' nest (just a little bit of straw) in box #2, to discourage a competing couple from moving in.

Two more things that they're picky about, LOL!

I hope you don't mind my unsolicited advice from a Bluebird Mom of many, many years!
