@kate2357 Just curious but what is the serious problem?

@rms1954

The sort of animation I'm referring to can trigger vertigo. There have been times I've had vertigo last for days. Not saying from anything on Q Boards, but it can happen quickly. For example, I have a hard time driving or riding when there is dappled light coming thru trees. It's quit a pain in the tush, so I was trying to be proactive.

Oh.  Sorry if I was too personal.  I didn't realize that.  Sorry you have to go thru such a thing.  Maybe it should be given some serious attention and consideration.

@rms1954

No worries at all. I didn't mean to be vague about how it impacts me.

Vertigo is such a weird thing because sometimes it just happens and sometimes there is an "event" which you know causes your vertigo. It's so unnerving to feel your body spin out of control whether your eyes are open or closed.

When it hits me particularly bad, it feels like you are incredibly drunk or hungover and the whole room spins or in some cases you see the room moving like when you swipe your phone to scroll thru pictures ... but it's the whole room that just keeps moving right to left, right to left, over and over. You can't stand, sit or walk because your balance is way off. I've literally had to just lay on the floor and wait for my husband to help me get to the bathroom or to a chair.

Again, not to say the animated gifs have caused this to happen to me. I'm just trying to avoid situations.

Thank your for your explanation.  I really had no idea, but I'm glad that you took the time to explain what you go thru.  It certinaly was educational and brought about some awareness, at least for me.  It's hard to deal with things that limit us in our daily routines and when others are unaware it makes it harder.  I think it should NOT be allowed and who knows how many others that have this reaction.

I am with the poster that stated to simply ask the offending poster.  Good luck!

Re: Blocking posters an option?

I have the same issue. It makes me a bit dizzy. I usually hold my thumb over the moving avatar until I'm done reading and then scroll fast.

That's a good way to do it @MamaWick .  Good suggestion.

@kate2357Just a thought......I'm not sure if you have signed up for the Q forum on Pro Boards, or if you even want to, but on that board (with the same forums that are here and over 1,200 of the same posters that are here on QVC) you can do the following:

  • Block posters
  • Send private messages to other posters
  • Post links to outside retail places
  • Post coupon code or special pricing codes to outside retail places
  • Create any poll you want to find out what others like or suggestions

I know I am missing some of the other things that can be done there, but those are the ones I enjoy having the ability to use.

Again, just a thought. Heart

@World Traveler  if a Poster were to block everyone who has a moving avatar, there wouldn't be any Posts to read.

Re: Blocking posters an option?

@MamaWick    I suffer from bouts of Vertigo and in fact just got over a  3 week bout with it so I totally understand what the OP is referring to.

Re: Blocking posters an option?

If I knew that something I was doing was causing someone to have an adverse reaction, I would absolutely stop doing it. I don't think some posters are aware of this so hopefully when they see that some posters are being affected, they will fix the issue and not hope that others find workarounds through other outside apps.

Re: Blocking posters an option?

I get motion sickness very occasionally. So I can understand the problem. Animated gifs usually aren't a problem for me though.

However. On the other forum I had an animated avatar for a while and was happy with it at first. Then I started a thread, and because I was responding to other posts, there were quite a few of my posts in a row all in the same thread. That meant my animated avatar appeared multiple times on the page.

Well, seeing all my marching kittens synchronized and moving simultaneously as I scrolled down the page, did make me a bit sick to my stomach. Since I didn't want to experience that again or cause anyone else to feel that way, I switched to a still avatar.

Yes there is, if you do it my way. It's called "manual blocking". If I see "their nic"?  I don't read it.  Easy!

Re: Blocking posters an option?

I understand how frustrating it could be. Some people follow you on the board and make awful comments. If you do same to them, they object. They are rude people. I wish it was an option to block such behaviors.
