I would love an invitation to lunch...but a donation in my honor is always wonderful. Even some of our grandkids are getting old enough that we are doing donations for Ocean Ecology, etc. depending upon what their interests are...our grandkids need nothing.

If that's what you want there is nothing wrong with it, however maybe you should also give the gift givers the option of donating to their favorite charity in your name just in case they don't support the same charities you do.  Otherwise you may still end up with the candles and plaques and lotions.

This is one of the best posts I have ever read. No it is the best. I give to my favorite charities. Hope it gives many of us food for thought. Christmas and birthdays are a great way to begin.

@CelticCrafter  I choose organization that is near and dear to me and friend/family decides who they want to receive a donation.  It is a win win situation.  I want to honor friend by giving to whomever they feel a need to honor.

@Catiele  Glad you enjoyed post.  I don't really need anything and was taught to give if able.  I was blessed with normal, healthy daughter and grandchildren.  My heart goes out to sick children and their parents.   My mother used to say "If I can help somebody than my living is not in vain".  I try to honor my parents by doing things that would honor their memory.

@ Phoenixbrd - Best Friends is my favorite charity too.  My friends and family know a gift made to them is the best gift they could give me.
