She had a scandal early on can't remember the details it can be Googled. Edward and her got put back in place till the smoke cleared.

 

Usually time heals all wounds is Queen's answer to all these pop up flares. Thank God Charles is not stepping out of line.

Her birthday, perhaps that is why there was a big article about her in one of the British papers.  Apparently, she and the Queen are very close.  The Queen adores her and loves her like another daughter.  Like Princess Anne, Sophie is one of the hardest working of the royals.  She has been from the beginning but she hasn't received much attention until now.  The thought was that with Harry and Meghan stepping down; that leaves about 300 royal engagements a year that others in that family will have to pick up so Sophie might be more visible now.  It's a lot of added work and there are not many working royals now.
