@Daisy Sunflower The thing is not everyone lives near a Walmart. I'm in a large city in western Washington state and the closest one is 15 miles away. Never been. I think Amazon is a better choice.

I think I would consider some sort of donation, or gift certificate for an activity.
Does she enjoy reading? A new bestseller in her favorite genre with a donation to her local library.
Is there an upcoming wine tasting class in your area? Tickets to it and a bottle of wine.
Is there a specialty cooking class? Make a pizza, or homemade pasta, or cake decorating?
Some type of event.
I think by the age of 80 there's not much stuff that is needed or appreciated, but an activity or event is something to look forward to and it can create a memory.

For me personally, at my advanced age please do not send me something to find a place for, store, dust, put out, put on, smell, or do somethting with. I don't know anyone my age who wants stuff. I'm sure there are those, I just don't know any of them.

Thank you all for the thoughtful ideas you've shared. I really like the suggestion of a picture of us together, along with a lovely friendship card penning how much I appreciate our friendship all these years. Within that card, I'll tell her that a lovely dinner together, her restaurant choice, awaits whenever she's free.
In the early 70s, we went to Costa del Sol, Spain together. I have some great pictures of us having fun, visting the sites, and also on the beach in our bikinis. lol I'll go through those pictures and pick out a few favorites.
Thanks for all of your input. I appreciate your time in responding.

How about a pretty Luminara flameless candle or a real one if you know what scent she likes.

Send her a beautiful birthday card, a few pictures of the both of you.
Maybe include a book or two of stamps, she sure will need some stamps
to send out thank you cards after her birthday party.

If I need a gift where cash is not appropriate, I usually buy wind chimes.
I get them for someone when a loved one passes, a birthday for someone who has everything, anniversary, and even a wedding shower.
I get them personalized. They come in all sizes and price points. You can listen to them on the website, so you can buy one with a sound that is pleasing and not just clanky.
All the recipiants have been happy....something different.
