Re: Birthday Gift Given Back

A friend of mine got divorced and her husband married a JW. They didn't celebrate birthdays. I wonder if this is why she wouldn't accept the gift? Even if it was the reason, I think she should have told you why. Sorry this has happened to you. It was very sweet of you to give her a gift.

Re: Birthday Gift Given Back

I agree that this mother is not providing proper living conditions for her children. I would report her.  That the choice the OP has made to rent a room in a home may or may not be a financial decision. It could be a safety issue and is not the topic of this thread.

There is no reason a gift from a friendly female neighbor should not be accepted. I'm not surprised the daughter has a problem with crowds considering her mother who seems suspicious and controlling.

I think the Dept of Child Protective Servies needs to be informed about what is going on something sounds very off to me

They are poor, perhaps the mom is doing the best she can, three people ia a one room, is terrible.

@hsawaknow-  Not at all.  I was addressing your comments about this family and made the comparison to your situation.

Do I need to quote your original post? You totally judged my ability to what I could pay. It was my OPINION I found the 3 of them living in a small room odd and unhealthy and you attacked me for that as well.

There is no comparison. The OP is one adult person in a room. This mother has three people, two of which are  teenaged children living in one room, no space even for beds.

Moreover, we don't know the mother can't afford something suitable. It could be she prefers to spend her money on something other than providing proper living conditions for her children.

Re: Birthday Gift Given Back

I would forget about the Mom not wanting her daughter to have the lip gloss and leave that family alone. We are so nosey and moralistic in this country, we have no idea how the other half has to live. Would you be satisfied to see child services investigate the home situation and maybe have those children taken away from their Mother. Many kids have problems who are living in the best of conditions, yet strangers are not suggesting child services get involved.  I think we need to check our biases concerning the poor.

Re: Birthday Gift Given Back

OP , do you think the mother is on drugs,or alcohol, or she is just not making enough money for another place to live?
