@goldensrbest, totally possible and totally irrelevant to this thread.

@goldensrbestThe OP shared that this woman cares for the elderly. I have never known an agency employing someone illegally in this country. Claiming she may be illegal is quite a leap. Just because she does not have the money to have separate bedrooms for her children? Just read "Nickled and Dimed" and see how people have to live working for minimum wage and nobody in that book was "illegal."

I know that is happening all over our country, not questioning that ,but what i am asking i think i heard on the news of people working ,and not being legal, i don't know the womens situation if she is ,or not.

None of this makes any sense. Clearly, something isn't right--the situation is not normal. I suspect the mother is an illegal.

The OP said that she has been living in this country for 20 years. How on earth could she be an illegal? She is working a full time job that screens their applicants anyway. Surely, she is a citizen. SMH

I am SMH too, @Trinity11.

You don't have to be a citizen, to be legal. My sil was a green card holder, most of his life, including when he honorably served in our military

He was brought here as a babe in arms

My concern is the Children. Forbidden to leave the room. To often situations like this where people after the fact of a tragedy occurs say...

They acted odd, knew something was off, Yet, never reported.

If you see or think something odd, Please contact the proper authorities.

Re: Birthday Gift Given Back

If you know anything about African culture, the village does take care of them. I would guess there are other families in the area who provide food and support. It is unusual that they do not accept gifts from just anyone.

this is based on my experience with my Liberian and Nigerian friends.

Re: Birthday Gift Given Back

Does homeschooling have requirements/inspections/whatever?

Something doesn't sound right.

Regarding the gift:  Some moms don't approve of lip gloss or scented items for their children.  I don't know anything about r*ligions, etc. re: birthday or other gifts.

'I don't know'........the first thing I thought of was children being captive or hidden.

Wishing them well.  Hope all is well in this family.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I simply think it is  not right to send people back  when they have lived here for many years ,held a job, raised a family,  i just don't understand why they never did the paperwork to make it legal.
