Re: Bill and Giuliana Rancic surrogate has miscarriage

I feel terribly sad for them. Losing a baby is excruciating. BTW, I had to have fertility treatments to have my children and was told that it might put me at a greater risk for certain cancers in the future. I didn't even bat an eye. When I held my first child in my arms, I knew we made the right decision FOR US. Judge not and I am also Catholic. Our choices are between God and ourselves, not dogma written by man. Jmo, of course.

They announced a few days ago that their gestational carrier miscarried at 9 weeks so they must have tried again after the implant didn't take last time. So I think they don't have any more fertilized eggs.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Wookie, she had breast cancer and was advised against fertility treatments as I understand it...

I believe she went through two rounds of treatments and that's how they found the cancer. I remember he had to give her shots and stuff.

Elizabeth Edwards got breast cancer after undergoing hormone fertility treatments.

I wonder if there is a link....

I wonder too.

I think it does have a link...JMPO

Talk about TMI. I guess when you have no talent, you have to resort to this.{#emotions_dlg.blink}

I wonder if they are told that breast or ovarian cancer are possibilities down the road.

I doubt it...

Why would you assume they aren't being informed of the risks? Some people know the risks but are willing to do it anyway.

Congrats to you for taking a chance on what you desired. So happy that it worked out well for your family. It is no ones business but you and your husbands. Blessings to you all.

Re: Bill and Giuliana Rancic surrogate has miscarriage

Was curious about the cancer link, here is an article from WebMD dated 2011 but others published since that I looked at seemed to be in agreement.

_______________________________________________

Oct. 18, 2011 -- When E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic made her bre ast cancer diagnosis public, there was speculation about whether fertility treatment might have been a factor.

On NBC's Today show, Rancic, 37, said she got a mammogram when her doctor strongly recommended it before starting another round of IVF (in vitro fertilization). On their reality TV show, Rancic and her husband, Bill, have chronicled their previous fertility treatments.

Rancic's diagnosis has raised questions about whether fertility treatment can increase the risk for bre ast cancer. WebMD got answers from fertility and bre ast cancer specialists.

Fertility and cancer experts interviewed for this story agree that there is no strong evidence to connect fertility drugs with increased risk for bre ast cancer. Oncologists add that there is a need for studies that follow women who have undergone IVF for longer periods of time.

Exposure to estrogen and progestin after menopause has been linked to increased risk for bre ast cancer for women in their 50s and 60s, but fertility drugs do not expose women to estrogen at that age, says Samantha Pfeifer, MD. She is chair of the practice committee at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

Another site discussed Elizabeth Edwards - Bre ast Cancer.org and the doctor said he saw nothing to suggest a connection.

Until they do more studies I can't help but believe it makes one a higher risk.

The extra hormones or hormones when there are none have to cause problems.

Look at the increased heart and cancer issues connection for menopausal women taking more hormones to relieve symptoms.
