Re: Best organization for giving a donation for Bahamas hurricane relief

@gellen I donated to northshore animal league. I wanted to help  our furry friends.Just make sure it's legit. The hurricane season is the worst this time of year, so anywhere you choose will benefit.

From Charity Navigator:

You can help families and communities affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas and the United States today. The highly-rated organizations included in our list have pre-positioned resources to deliver food, emergency shelter, medical care, and other critical items to people impacted by this storm. Charity Navigator has confirmed these charities’ efforts on the ground and encourages donors to support any of the 3- and 4-star charities featured.

It matters to me where I send my money. When there are so many good charities, why would I choose one whose director's beliefs and POVs are totally the opposite of mine?

Absolutely.

There are plenty of charities out there who do good work.

If I choose to exclude some that conflict with my beliefs, that is my business.

I am scratching my head about the divide that suggests it is OK to criticize secular charities but it is not OK to criticize faith based charities.

I like World Central Kitchen, Jose Andre's organization.

(I didn't see any political links/ads on that page)

And here's his website:https://wck.org/

I’m sure the Franklin Graham, Samaritan’s Purse is HIGHLY political.

I don’t want my money going to someone in Washington.

Especially someone who’s beliefs are not in line with mine.

And I wouldn't give a dime to Red Cross, whose actions I've seen first hand after a disaster.  Isn't it a good thing that this is a free country where we can choose to donate wherever we want?

Absolutely. But I didn't see anyone saying that people had to donate to the Red Cross, or couldn't donate to Samaritan's Purse. People were just offering their opinions on various charities and inviting others to take a look and know where their money was going.

Re: Best organization for giving a donation for Bahamas hurricane relief

I don't know why there has to be a criticism of any organization.  Or why there has to be any reason why it has to be secular vs. religious.  Once a person makes that type of distinction the purpose is obvious.

Anyway:

btw:  Samaritan's Purse has an top rating on Charity Navigator.

According to the latest update re: SP:

Samaritan's Purse has airlifted over 30 tons of emergency items and more than a dozen disaster relief team specialists to the Bahamas. A second airlift will soon transport our Emergency Field Hospital and 16 more team members, including doctors and nurses. The 40-bed mobile facility can receive up to 100 patients daily and features an operating room with capacity for 10 surgeries per day.

The whole point of donations is about people in distress, not what is secular or religious or liked or disliked.

I am positive that those suffering right now are not debating the merits of any organization.

People are going to choose their preferred organization and that is fine.
