@Isobel Archer wrote:While Price Waterhouse clearly screwed up - are we seriously saying Beatty had no responsibility to correct the problem when - as he himself stated - he knew he had the wrong card?
How hard can it be to simply say - I have the card for the previous winner - could someone bring me the right one?
Seriously.
Even the best, most well-trained seasoned actor can have a deer-in-the-headlights moment, when caught off-guard.
It's easy to say what you would have done from the comfort of your couch, but try doing something LIVE in front of MILLIONS of people, and under bright lights.
Once you have done that, then talk to me about what you would have done.
It's easy to talk the talk, but much harder to walk the walk.
Well however flustered i might have been initially, I certainly hope i would not have stood by while my co presenter read the wrong winner and then allowed the folks who thought they won to be embarassed in such a public way. And then to top it off, grabbed the mic and told everyone that I knew it was the wrong card - which was why I didn't announce it.
Seriously? You condone this behavior?
I have to be honest, Warren clearly saw there was a problem (and this is not his first rodeo at that podium) and probably thought Dunaway saw the same issue but for me when he saw there was an issue he should have stepped back and asked for someone to verify the envelope's contents or at least given Dunaway a head's up that something didn't seem right being the seasoned pro's that they are.
I also think the two that were carrying the briefcases with the envelopes shouldn't have spent any time tweeting and spent their time ensuring the right envelopes were being delivered to the right hands.

I don't recall a lifetime achievement award, I use to like that award....did I miss it?
They honored Shirley McClain with the Luminiere Award for outstanding contribution to television and movies. I don't remember this award either. Maybe the Luminiere replaced the Lifetime Achievement?

@ms traditional- it was reported Ms Streep wanted to be compensated for wearing the dress, not sure which one? How much money does she need? Glad she lost to Ms Stone who is not only talented but fresh, young, humble and beautiful.
@Stray she is fighting that charge furiously. he said/she said. as for her dress, i would like to see the Chanel she liked first. not sure the belt on that blue one she picked was helpful.
@ms traditional- we will see. I am not a fan of her fashion sense

Maybe Warren and Faye had had a few cocktails and weren't thinking clearly.
Beatty certainly looked like he thought something wasn't right.

TMZ is reporting that they were feuding before the awards. Refused to rehearse together. Also fought over who would make the announcement. IF that's true, it could explain why he handed her the card with no warning there was a problem - let her call the wrong winner, and then later claimed the mic to tell everyone that HE knew the card was wrong which is why HE didn't read it. So maybe he was thinking on his feet after all - saw an opportunity to zing her and took it.

Well, that would certianly fit with his reputation (as I recall it, from years ago) as a jackass.

@QueenDanceALot what a polite way of saying what most folks have to say about Mr. Beatty . . . . ![]()
I have to say while Warren was doing quite possibly the worst job ever of trying to figure out what was going on for me it was pretty clear something wasn't quite right when he opened that envelope. I will never understand the back and forth between the two of them before Faye blurted out the wrong winner but I got the distinct impression that these two would have been much happier occupying opposite ends of the globe on any given day. Especially last night.
And although PriceWaterhouse made a huge mistake can neither of these two people read?
Sigh.
eta: My apologies to Mr. Beatty as apparently he more than had his hands full during that moment:

I don't like MS anymore. She has totally developed a huge ego and thinks she should win everything. IMO, she chooses to play all of these crazy people so no one knows if it's good acting or not.
