Re: Berry Eagles Fans - Eggs expected to pip soon

[ Edited ]

So very precious!...I was happy to see that they had a beautiful sunny day today!...Such a beautiful nest...We have seven birdhouses around our yard and we clean the nests out each Fall...It's fascinating to see all of the various debris that the birds use to build their cozy, beautiful nests!

Then, I put some Moss in the birdhouses to help keep them warm during the upcoming Winter months.

I find animals so fascinating to watch.  The other day I saw an interesting interaction between Mom and Dad eagle.

Dad was on the nest and Mom was ready to take her turn, She waited for Dad to get up, but he kept sitting and ignoring her.  Finally, she got right in his face - beak to beak - and he got up then.  I would love to know what she "said" to him.

Scary drama on the nest this morning.  Thank goodness I missed it.

One chick was accidentally pulled out of the nest and stranded. All is well now, but this situation required both teamwork and problem-solving by the parents.

I am so impressed.  These eagles had to first recognize the problem and then figure out a solution.

Thank God I missed it.  Did a predator try to take the baby?

Here's a link to the youtube video.  Mom accidentally had one of the babies stuck to her foot - it happens around 1 minute 30 seconds.

Not as scary as I expected

I do have a concern that one of the babies was exposed to the elements for a long time (to me).

@Bird mama, Mom caught the chick in her talon and accidentally pulled it out of the nest as she walked away - probably to feed them.

Dad eventually flew in and sat on the stranded chick, while Mom was still with the one in the nest.  Unusual to see both sitting at the same time.

Then Dad left and Mom gradually pulled the chick back under her again.

Animal intelligence at its best.

ETA: @Bird mama, I saw video of a chick killed like this, so it would have scared me.

I'm not blaming the Dad, I just couldn't believe he stared at the baby that was stranded and didn't sit on it to warm it up right away.  Mom was sitting on the other and there's that little baby somewhat flailing, like - hey I'm cold here.
