Early this year my husband had to spend one night in the hospital to have some stents put in. He is 64 and this was his first hospital stay ever.

Everything went smoothly (thank goodness!), and our insurance (thank goodness!!) paid a good portion of the outrageous cost - over $48,000!!!

Now we're getting requests to make donations to a foundation connected with the hospital. They say they'd like us to consider making contributions to "offer comfort, relief and healing to those who are hurting."

Is this a common practice with hospitals? I especially don't like how they use their patient files to send out solicitations.

I can't believe they first charge us over $48K for ONE night in the hospital, and then want us to send them more money!

Don't get me wrong....I firmly believe in giving, and we give A LOT! But I was flabbergasted to get a request from a hospital, especially when they charged us an exhorbitant amount for a night in one of their beds.
