Yesterday, I had a company remove a hive that was swarming in the back of my house into a tiny hole in the fascia. This company is the busiest it has ever been, probably due to the increase in swarming due to the increase in heat we are having here in South Florida. The removal cost $1200. That stings. This company does keep some hives for bee keepers they work with but right now they are swamped with calls and human safety comes first. A neighbor behind me had already knocked on my front door. He came over because his little girl is allergic to bee stings. Anyway, the company left two big holes in my back porch ceiling and around an outside spotlight. Now I have to figure out how to fix the holes.

WOW...I had no idea it was the expensive to have bees removed.

@Mindy D OUCH! That does sting! I would make sure when you have all the repairs done that that person or company checks all the areas around your home and makes sure that there are no places where bees... and such can enter.
Over time and years, screens and such that were put up long ago can break or loosen.... that is what happened to last year to us and a hornets nest moved in our roof area. . We had to replace several screens covering the air vents in the roof.

Wow. Good thing you had it taken care of, but the hole thing is a drag.
I was having my home exterior painted, and we saw a few wasps flying in and out behind an outdoor light fixture mounted on the siding, and he warned me that he's seen problems.
I was glad he told me - I hadn't thought about it.

Ouch is right. That is expensive. I would get those holes fixed ASAP before more bees show up.
My sister had a large one in her tree out back last time we visited. It belonged to her next door neighbor. He had it in a tree in his back yard to pollinate his large garden. Some how they moved to a tree in my sisters yard.
The neighbors brother is a beekeeper so he came out & put them back in the tree next door.

Was the hive close to your neighbors property and where she played???
If he approached me I'd tell him Im so sorry to hear that, hope your daughter has an epi pen, I just can't afford it---wanna split cost.....Its not that I'm being cold hearted, my brother is allergic to bees, and starting as a kid has always taken the necessary precautions and he's an avid fisherman and outdoorsman too...
And I hope it wasn't Honey Bees......🐝 And just because these services are too busy to preserve the hives isn't a valid excuse because long term ramifications could be very serious.....
The simple fact is, if bees didn't exist, neither would humans.
Even if you hate bees, you need them. They are responsible for much of the food on your plate. Bees perform a task that is vital to the survival of agriculture: In fact, one third of our global food supply is pollinated by bees. Simply put, bees keep plants and crops alive.

I think you might need a carpenter. It sounds like it is more than a quick fix. Good luck ,and Brava, for caring about a child's health

Boy, that does sting!
On the island where I live, we have a bee company that makes bee/honey products that they sell in stores and online (great products BTW!) and they will come out for free and they just add the bees to their existing hives.
So, besides the $1200 for removal, you now have repairs to deal with!

We have had issues around Vegas with Africanized bees taking up residence in and around homes here. They're a problem because they are very aggressive and often attack and kill anything that moves--pets, people and so on. They are extremely expensive to get rid of, but I didn't know the pest control guys tear up your property and leave it that way!
Trying to be proactive, I've gone out and caulked any holes and spaces I could reach on the exterior of our house and surrounding wall. The ones I couldn't reach I hired a handyman to fill in. :::Knock wood::: no problems.

Spurt, you are right on. Our bees are essential and they are in danger of extinction due to many environmental and man-made threats. If at all possible, PLEASE , everyone, DO NOT KILL BEES.
