@decaf, for the record on my comment about lazy writers going after low-hanging fruit, I was NOT speaking of you but rather the authors of the sources that you were referring to. I thought that was clear, but apparently it was not.

@suzyQ3  Your comment wasn't clear at all, That's the reason I asked you to clarify your post and then you rudely attacked me. At that point, of course I thought you meant me.   Who wouldn't?

Also, if you read my posts, I was clear my opinion was based on circumstances in the lives of my own family and friends.  Any articles/books I read on the subject  just confirmed what I was already witnessing.

Eta- Let's move on..

Thank you for your understanding, @decaf. Much appreciated. I'm so glad that I took the time to clarify my comment.

@suzyQ3  Of course, no problem.  I was happy to see your clarification. I'm also happy to put this aside now.

Work "ethic" has nothing to do with getting extra $$ to live a better life.  Those two things are not analogous.  Those who were making minimum wage were never getting the top amount in their UE benefits.  Only people making the highest salary got the top tier of their UE benefits.  They were better off staying home.

Well people with children who aren't working won't go back to work now.  They will be getting $300 for each child every month under the age of 6 and $250 for older children. The parents have to be making less than $150,000.

I wonder who's gonna pay this free money.

@Carmiefrom what I've read it's an advance on their Child Tax Credit.  Something they would get anyway if they did their taxes properly.  They will get six payments of this upfront child tax credit (which they are eligible for).  If you had read up on the program you'd know the IRS is responsible for all of this.  That means of course all taxpayer's including the parents who are not going back to work.

No one get this credit unless they were eligible for it.  Don't fear.  It's not another handout!

The tax credit per child was $2000.  now it is $3600 for those under age six and $3000 for those over age six.  That is a big increase.  It is concerning when combined with the other give-away programs.  We are borrowing money at an alarming rate. Sooner or later     This money will have to be paid back.  Our taxes are going to go through the roof.

I am worried about the money I have invested over the years.  We did without to save for  retirement.  Now, if we need it to live on, it will be taxed higher than ever.

don't fear?  Well, I do fear and with good reason.

@CarmieYou shouldn't fear working people.  You should be concerned about the big corporations that saw their tax liabilities slashed.  Why no concern over that?  What you fear is that someone is getting something you're not entitled to.  Who gave who the tax breaks?  Who is getting to keep more of their income?  GREED is what drives your fear.

Re: Becoming Concerned about Pandemic Fallout

@gertrudecloset   Greed drives my fear?  What the heck!

I am certain that I am not greedy. No how, no way

What drives my fear is common sense.  You cannot spend or give away money you don't have.  Our country is borrowing money at a zero interest rate...so I guess that makes it okay.

Yes, corporations are getting tax breaks too.  This needs to stop.

We are headed for more financial trouble.  It will probably take us at least 30 or 40 years as a country to recover from this.  Some people do need help and I don't begrudge  them, but forgiving loans and giving out money to people who are doing okay is crazy.

We were personally sent stimilus money that we didn't want or need. We spent most of it buying supplies to help repair the homes of two elderly ladies.  My DH did the work.  The rest was spent fixing up an older car for a single mother of a teenage daughter so she could get to work.

The money we received was just not needed or wanted. Many people I know said the same thing.

So you will blame financial troubles on working families with children?  We were headed for financial trouble the minute big corporations got their taxes slashed and raised the prices on evrything anyway.  That lends itself to inflation.  Why blame working families for all of this?

Many parents had to stay home and (women).  There are a lot of single parent households too.  Working America deserves breaks just like corporations.  @Carmie

We have to deal with what comes.  No one expected Covid.  No one expected 9/11 either.  We could have stopped the Great Recession though.

I find it shameful that people will hurang and begrudge working families from assistance during these times.  Greed and only thinking of one's self is one way to look at it.  I find no other reason for people to be so upset about working families with children catching a break.
