I'm not that familar with Beaverton, specifically, but, it is a suburb of Portland, definitely part of the Portland Metro area.
My Sister lives in Vancouver, WA, across the Columbia River, from Portland, and works in Portland. I live in Spokane, but visit the area often.
Portland is a beautiful city, beautiful area. No matter how many times I see it, I'll never get tired of driving into Portland, on a nice day, and the breathtaking beauty of Mt Hood in the distance.
The Portland area is consistently rated one of the most liveable Metro areas in the country. Tons of beautiful parks, people love to get out and enjoy being out.
Although Portland is fairly large, metro population over 2million, it's spread out and I enjoy the fact that you don't have a really congested "big city" feel.
People are friendly, they have a great public transportation system, I know Beaverton is linked to the MAX, their light rail, and, they have VooDoo donuts and one of the best Saturday Markets in the country.
OK, it's the Northwest, that means yes, they Do get rain. West of the mountains, in both Washington and Oregon, rain is a fact of life, especially at certain times of the year. Spokane is dryer, but, we get our share, at times, and in the Winter, we also get snow. Snow is rare west of the mountains, but, when it happens, it can be a mess, because they're unprepared.
If you can, visit for a few days. It is a beautiful area, I think you'll fall in love. But, coming from Arizona, you need to be aware that it's a very differnt climate and there can be long dreary periods of grey skies. I've lived in the Northwest my entire life and I love it!

I believe a poster on VP - sfnative - moved to Oregon/ Willamette Valley - ...you might try paging her or she will see this thread.
A friend moved from the Northeast out to Oregon and settled in Hood River, east of Portland, partly for the Windsurfing and also the weather. He loves living there. East of the Cascade range, it lies in a rain shadow so this area is drier. Still gets rain though and sometimes snow.

My aunt & her two grown sons all left Niagara Falls and moved to Az.
They lasted one year and came back.
They HATED it there.
Many people are leaving both AZ and FLA and heading up north again, or at least a little further up north.
If you live in AZ, what are the issues there that are causing people to leave?

You will love the weather reports, they distinguish between partly sunny and partly cloudy (they are NOT the same thing) or lite rain and heavy showers. I have even heard of rain nearby and sun breaks.
It does rain and is grey a lot, but really no ice or snow or freezing to speak of. Sort of one season all year. We pack jackets for the coast in summer and think sandal weather is anything that is sunny and over 60. No sun (or rain) yesterday but it hit 71 so I took the grandkids swimming.
All of this gives a casual air to clothing and produces wonderful trees on the hills.

Perhaps I won't have to worry about it with the great public transportation you have. I like rain but not days and weeks of it and I heard it rains for days on end in Oregon. We are going to google it to find as much info as we can. Again, thanks to all.
Regarding the rain, I'm from San Francisco, now living in Portland. When winter arrives in S.F. and the storms arrive from the Alaskan coast the rain is merciless and pounds for days. Yes, pounds.
In Portland, we may get a downpour that lasts anywhere from a few minutes to 20 minutes, but it's more common for rain to be "light rain" or sometimes "stead rain." To me, this rain is not a big deal.
Also, it would be wise to purchase chains to get around, if you need to, when it snows, as there are no plows for a while. Last winter DH had to drive DD and DGD to the airport in the middle of a messy snowstorm. The roads were nearly bear, but he was able to make it quite nicely because I had insisted that we purhase chains before we move to Portland.
As with another poster, I don't like the heat here and few homes and apartments have A/C. I'm having an ongoing argument with DH regarding the purchase of a portable A/C unit, which I need to prevent the onsent of heat related migraines. So far I havn't won the argument yet.
There is one bonus to living in this area and tha is all the green: hundreds of thousands of forest green trees all over the place. I love it!

Good riddance to those leaving. More room for the one's who love it here. The ones leaving would probably not be happy anywhere they decide to live.

My cousin lives in the Beaverton area and loves it. You won't get the heat Arizona has, but you will get the greenery and the friendliness of Portland people.
