Re: Beauty salon stroke syndrome

Boy, am I glad I go to Aveda. They have you actually lie down on a mat and you don't even feel your neck-more like a sleep position. Plus, the room is dimmed and soft music plays.And the scents of the Pure-fumes throughout the salon. It's delightful.  I love Aveda.

Thanks for a most interesting article. But unfortunately that woman will never see a dime. IMO

The salon I go to doesn't have chairs that raise your feet or a neck brace.  Huh

        Thank you!   I was beginning to think that I was the only one who never went to a beauty salon with lounge type chairs and neck braces....lol   And I have been to  a lot of hair salons in my time,

Wow!! I go to an Aveda salon and they use a regular shampoo sink and chair. Maybe I should show your post to the salon owner lol. Love Aveda tho.

Really??? Maybe check on other Aveda salon in your area. It would be worth it. BTW, they also ask if, while lying there, I would like a complimentary facial-it's just a skin cleanse, a warm washcloth, and a moisturizer, all smelling glorious of course. I usually decline having already put on my 'face' but I've had it. It's like a fairy was dancing on my skin-that gentle! I love that place.

I'm only thinking right now.........maybe we should bring our own plastic bathtub floating (blow-up) neck pillows?  I believe all of the beauty supply stores still sell them.  We can adjust the amount of air/fullness in the neck pillow.   Just a thought........as usual (lol).

Easy. You are lying down, the bowl is under your neck, BUT you are all one height-your head is not back, it's just resting at the same height as you are. Hard to explain.

@JudalineThank you for the reply.  Is it a table that you're on?

Strokes are caused my many things.  My 23 year old SIL had a stroke 3 months after she got married.  The cause.... Birth control pills combined with smoking.  She was in rehab for 3 months and there were a couple of very young women in there with her... All smokers who took BC pills.

That being said, you should not be uncomfortable at the shampoo bowl.  Have your stylist line the neck indentation with a towel.  If you are too short and there is no booster chair, sit on a pile of towels or books to raise yourself up. You can even stand up and lean over the bowl.

This problem is rare and not likely to happen, so relax and get comfortable.

@Carmie

During my 72 Cardiac Rehabilitation Sessions, I met 5 young adults that suffered heart attacks. One 26 year old young woman had suffered 2, as had I, heart attacks in her young life. Her issue, according to her,was pretty much genetics.

I also met one young man that was 28 years old, and a Minor League Pro Baseball player. He had undergone a Stent Angioplasty. He was fortunate that the team doctor ordered a Maximal Treadmill Stress Test, and also an Echocardiogram.

From there came the Heart Cath Procedure and subsequent Angioplasty. He had 2 main arteries over 90% blocked, but suffered zero heart damage. He told me his doctors pointed to, more than likely, from genetic causes. A young man does not play Professional Baseball without being pretty physically fit.

For many both young and old, lifestyle can be a factor. For many, including myself, genetics plays/played a significant role in my 2 heart attacks, and also it appears be the same with the 2 young adults I mentioned above.
