Posted this under "Supermoon":  local wisdom calls the last full moon at end of August " Buck Moon " because male deer begin to grow the velvety antlers, a prelude to mating season.

I was following the the Farmer's Almanac reference that calls the July moon the "buck moon" and the August full moon the "sturgeon moon."
