Beach Etiquette - some people need to learn

Yesterday at the beach we encountered a women with no beach sense. She was there with her two boys, they looked to be around 5. They had brought a hard ball and were kicking the ball all around (mom included) where people were sitting.

They hit several people while they were sleeping. Knocked over some kids sand castles. Just annoying all around.

I was sitting closer to the water with my daughter while she built a sand castle and my husband was up by our stuff sleeping. We weren't that far from each other. But there was lots of space between us and the surf or huge open areas behind where most people were seated.

The kids and mom started kicking the ball again all around where people were sitting. They got really close to my husband so I finally told her they better not hit my husband. She laughed. I told her I wasn't joking and she should teach her kids some beach etiquette and either go play ball down by the water or up in the open area and not where people were sitting.

She walks down towards the water and kicks the ball towards me and my daughter (like she was on a soccer field kick) it would have nailed my daughter in the head BUT her son jumped in front of the kick and it hit so hard you could hear it. He screamed and doubled over.

Soon after they left.

I love the beach but some people can just be complete idiots. I'd bet others have stories.

I always love it when some nincompoop stands to shake out his/her beach towel sending sand flying all around.

I know the feeling. I always hated kids throwing frisbees around and having them land on my blanket. I told some young boys once that if it landed on my blanket one more time, I would keep it. Beach personnel should outlaw these types of things on the beach.

If you want to play ball, go to a park. Bathers and sun worshipers and sand castle builders want to enjoy in peace.

I have not had this problem....but would think to tell the lifeguard if this situation happens again. My family always hangs near a lifeguard tower....away from the slugs, the insane and the stupid...

Had they been playing with a beach ball it would have still been annoying hitting people but it wouldn't have hurt anyone. Why they would bring a hard ball i to kick around people is beyond me.

Yesterday the life guards were busy because of the strong undercurrent. but even if it had been calm I don't know that I would have thought to tell them. I should keep that in mind if it ever happens again. I tend to just tell someone if it bugs me long enough. Smile

Three things bother me at the beach:

1..people who shake their blankets & towels on you.

2..people that walk across my blanket.

3..people that pack up and leave their trash.

So her son got the ball hit into him?? I'm sorry but I do have to laugh at that-- what goes around comes around.

When I lived on Long Island I would drive all the way out to find the least crowded beach just to have as much of it to myself as I could get.

I'm not fond of crowded beaches.
