Who says they don’t know this? It’s pretty common knowledge.

DH and I personally have no interest using these new devices, but be careful of your privacy. Keep in mind, as technology expands into every aspect of your life, the less privacy you will actually have.
Some folks don't care if everything is out there for the whole world to know...
DH and I have our boundaries.
@Susan Louise Thank you for trying to be helpful. I made a similar comment a couple of years ago about these devices (people working behind the scenes) being able to listen and was subject to the same ridicule. Don't let it get to you.
@JeanLouiseFinch Thanks
I realize that everyone is different and has their own set of priorities. Either folks care, they don't care, or it doesn't effect them/their family anyway. That can be applied to any subject across the spectrum.

I talk to Alexa just once in a while. This morning I asked her to tell me a joke. Kind of lame but here it is :
Why did the lion cross the road?
answer: To get to the other pride.
I know, I know.....but it did make me smile a little. Ha!

@chrystaltree wrote:Now that really made me laugh...LOL Amazon workers are free to listen to anything and everything I say around Alexa. I'm not doing anything illegal or immoral or even interesting....LOL
ITA, @chrystaltree !! What I like even more is that they ARE listening to others who may be saying illegal or immoral things!!!

What I couldn't find in the article I read was whether the workers could trace what they heard back to the individual they heard. I don't have the device, but if I did I'd want to know if they could.
If they can't trace the info back and listening actually accomplishes what Amazon says is the purpose (improving the software), I wouldn't care if I forgot to turn on a privacy setting.
Even if they could trace it, like many already said, what they'd hear from my home wouldn't send me to jail or end up embarrassing me in public! No matter, owners still deserve to know.

You couldn't give me one of those.

I don't have any of these devices, but I imagine my phone is listening to me. Also, I have a smart TV, so I make it a point to tell it goodnight in Russian every night just in case "they" are listening in. I keep both out of the bedroom.

Siri works just fine on all the Macs. I don't even need the Echo, or Dot.
I have had serious intrusions of privacy by hackers (neighbors), so if you think it's no big deal, think again. Your private life should be just that. Simple conversations can become an assault on your life, trust me.
Hear me, cody?

There was a story not long ago about how the Nest thermostats now have cameras and recording devices in them, but buyers were not told. The camera picked up an image on a person's graphic tee in the home, then the family started getting targeted ads regarding whatever was on the tee shirt from their google pod thing. An investigation ensued, and Nest fessed up that there were cameras in the thermostats...there was NO literature in their product data to suggest this. Basically, google (Nest owner) got caught data mining and were "Oops, sorry" about it..
My friend says he can hear his neighbor's conversations over his Alexa from their Alexa and noticed his device turns on automatically when his voice is raised for any reason. It's listening.
Before you think this is all conspiracy insanity, do a little "googling" about China's social credits system, and how people have been denied loans, jobs, travel, etc..because the government uses devices and alogrithims to determine whether people fit into their "correct" version of who they should be. Employees at Google quit when they learned that google secretly helped the Chinese government implement this system. It's called "project Dragonfly".
YOU are the product with these tech companies....and they are collecting every bit of data they can

@Quse Yep...and the sad part is most folks don't pay attention to where technology is headed and how they already are or will be effected.
