Id dial a cop instead of a criminal ANY day. Wouldn't you?
My old hometown just had a huge support your police rally. I was glad to read about it online via my old hometown news paper, and see how many showed up to support police and talk about any issues and differences so nothing happens like happened in other areas.
That's what EVERY town should do!
Police are doing themselves a major disservice when they support the bad cops and get incensed that anyone would call out one of their members.

ITA.....surprised the well-read posters on this forum don't realize that after all this time.

What that article doesn't say, and what I haven't heard on the news, is whether this lack of policing is only in poor and/or minority neighborhoods. Is the same thing happening in all the upscale neighborhoods as well, or are they being patrolled as usual? If they are not being policed equally, then that is totally wrong.
I think 99% of all police are "good guys" and do the best they can, but there are bad apples in all professions. Everyone is not perfect, and even if they don't do anything wrong intentionally, they are not infallible -- they can make mistakes. So this is not a putdown of the police anywhere--unless the citizenry are not being treated equally.
But they are paid to do a job, and they need to do it. What if doctors decided they were upset because they don't get paid as much as they would like, or they're unhappy for some other reason. Would you expect them to come in your exam room and take care of you, or just ignore you entirely? It's a matter of principle.

So he was killed by SEVERAL police...not just one rogue guy.

No, they are sitting in their patrol cars...on a work stoppage.

It's not. We all agree it was tragic...a situation hat could have been handled much differently. But to continually say he was choked is...wrong. He was in a headlock, not a chokehold.

Who doesn't?
But they also have to respect their bosses - both their chief and the elected leaders of NYC.
