Re: Be aware: Return shipping charges are becoming outrageous

YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE THE PRE-PRINTED LABEL!!!!

I returned something recently and didn't feel like paying $6.95 for the convenience of the pre-paid label. I looked over the paperwork, found the address, and MAILED it back myself--first class--for less than $2.00. Surely I can't be the ONLY person who knows this!!!! {#emotions_dlg.angry}

Did you receive tracking and insurance for $2.00. I ask because the only reason I have ever read here that people use the pre paid label is the tracking and insurance. If I sent back a pair of earrings that were over $500.00, I found it cheaper to use their label. However, if it was a lipstick that was inexpensive and I didn't care about the tracking, I suppose it would be cheaper to ship it back myself.. the only problem would be if it got lost, I'd be out the cost.

DO you still have the option of returning using your own package and label? I never used theirs (Or HSN's) because it always cost more that way.. I used to put multiple returns together in the same box or Tyvex envelope (no extra weight) and send regular mail. I would use their regular, not prepay, return label for the first thing in the package and then just cut the item scan # for each of the other things off the return label meant for them, and put those on the package, too, so all items were scanned on arrival at the warehouse.

Haven't bought anything in a long time, so not sure they would still allow this.

I haven't bought anything from the Q in ages and ages. They used to have a return postage label included in the packing slip. I think it was much cheaper than going to the USPS and mailing it yourself without the label. Don't they do that any longer?

Unless it is exceptionally small, I have seldom been able to mail a package at the post office for under $6.95. I never get out of the UPS store for less than $10.

What kind of package do you mail for $2?

Reading other boards on this site many complain of getting merchandise that has clearly been opened while others brag about ordering multiple colors and sizes to see what they like best. I seems to me that QVC is trying to address the abuses of some and satisfy others. You can't please everyone. They have been upfront and forthright with the change in return policy. Some folks need to take responsibility for their own buying habits.

Same here Abbey. I needed to return a t-shirt about a month ago and thought, if I used the lightweight plastic envelope it was sent in, I could return it for less than $6.95. Not so. It was close, but it would have been $7 + some change (I can't remember the exact amount), but it was more than using the prepaid label.

Someone mentioned previously (henneypenney, I think) that this is QVC's way of dealing with too many returns. This is what I thought from the moment I heard about the new policy, and I think it makes sense. Since I seldom return anything I order, I am a fan of the new lower S&H.

Good point, and I never thought of it because most of what I sent back wasn't that valuable. If it were, I might consider using the label.

I have a scale that measures in ounces ( 1/16th if a pound).

One pound is 16 ozs;, which is a first class stamp of (as best as I can remember postal rates right now) $0.48, and subsequent ounces are less.

So if I'm sending back something small and lightweight and not very valuable, I can use the Postal Service if it's 16 ozs. or less. I think that if it's over 16 ozs., it has to be dropped off at the post office. I've put many returns (often clothing which can be easily laid out flat in a padded envelope) and I've never had a problem.

My point is that you DON'T have to use the $6.95 return label; depending on what you're sending back, you can use the postal service and pay a LOT less.

I don't know about the return postage label but if you search through the paperwork (QVC deliberately doesn't make it easy to find) you can find the return mailing address. Once you've found it you can just jot it down and save it and you'll never have to through all the hassle again.
