Several 'birthday cards' I mailed from my mailbox were never 'received'.  Assuming 'someone' thought money might be inside before they reached their destination, I no longer use colored envelopes...too much temptation apparently...happened too many times to be a coincidence.

Yes, before this happened to me, I had several instances of non receipt of invitations mailed for my club (I'm corresponding secretary).  I guess the size and sometimes color of the envelopes made thieves think checks might be included.

All these were mailed at the post office by the way - inside.  So I'm not sure how safe that is either.

Re: Be Careful Mailing Checks

An insecure mail system is a sign of a corrupt country. Russian soldiers recently tried to use the Belorussian mail system to ship home the loot they'd stolen from Ukrainian civilians.

Now they're complaining that hardly any of it arrived where they sent it. Poor things apparently had their stolen loot stolen from them by their own corrupt post offices. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of criminal thugs.

Yes I knew crime was increasing and that it was mostly being shrugged off, but I have to admit I was very surprised to hear the Postal Inspection Service rep tell me that mailboxes are not "safe" to mail checks - or apparently anything else.

Yes, they'd "look in to it" but I didn't get the impression from her - or from the local police - that they expected either to catch the thief - or actually to do anything about preventing more theft in the future.  It's just too bad so sad I guess.
