Has anyone ever purchased furniture from Bassett?  We have a local store, and I am in the market for new living room furniture.  Any comments about service or quality? TIA.

Re: Bassett Furniture

We bought Bassett living room furniture years ago. It was really good quality & we used it for years. They sure don't make it like they used too. We never had any reason to call customer service. I don't know how their furniture is made today. If you check out there site online you can click on quality to see how their wood furniture & upholstered furniture is constructed. I researched furniture before we bought our last furniture. I wanted to know what I was buying. I saw on the Bassett site they use  Drop-in Coil Sinuous Wire Foundation on their upholstered furniture. The site below says those type springs are ok for the back but not the seat. I did not look any further to see what others say about that type of springs. If you read the article at the link below how to find quality furniture it will give you some tips on what to ask & look for.

My dad was a furniture salesman for many years and Bassett, Broyhill, and England Corsair were the top brands of furniture he would show his customers.   Those were the brands he and mom had in their house, and were the brands he sold to me when we furnished our new home.

The Broyhill couch dad and mom purchased in the fall of 1964 is still in their living room today.   Mom has replaced the foam in the seat cushions once, but the couch frame is still very sturdy, and the upholstery is the original.

I would not hesitate to buy Bassett furniture.

I think Bassett furniture is overpriced for what it is.  It's pretty, but they use drop in coils instead of eight way hand-tied.  Eight way hand-tied pieces will last and last.  That's what I've always bought.

That's what I read on the site I posted above regarding the springs they use in the seat. When we bought our leather furniture I turned it upside down to look at it to see how it was constructed & to make sure it was all leather even on the back & sides. The salesman said I have never had anyone do that before. LOL!!! He had not clue what I was looking for.

I have never considered Bassett as top of the line.  All I can attest to is our local store, that the few times I stopped in, NO ONE came and asked if we needed help.  The salespeople were all in the office at the front of the store and ignored us (and everyone else). I won't go again.

I had a Bassett crib and dresser in my babies nursery, it was beautifull and well made.

I have no experience with Basset but if you are looking for upholstery pieces which will last 25+ years, Hancock and Moore cannot be beat.  The one I own is about 15 years old and looks new.  I may, one day, reupholster it but only because I might want a different color fabric.

Henredon's wood pieces are, again, something which will stand the test of time.    I have a Henredon curio cabinet and buffet that my mother purchased in the 60's.  She chose well.  They are a streamlined style which still looks modern today.  My DH and I purchased a Henredon bedroom set with simple lines in 1976 which we still use today.  Still beautiful.

I am currently looking for end tables and a cocktail table for my family room to replace the Thomasville junk I purchased less than 10 years ago. This time, I am planning on buying old Henredon, Baker or Drexel Heritage pieces which I will have refinished to my specifications.  This furniture is quite expensive to purchase new (well worth it if you can spend more, however) but it is relatively easy and inexpensive to find on the used market.  Even after paying for refinishing, the cost will be well below what I would have to pay for good quality new furniture.

Good luck with your search.
