Also, people start sentences with "So...." when asked a question.

So?

Agreed!

Back when Judge Judy was in her heyday, I can remember her saying "Don't give me 'basically'!"

I think the new word is organic.  A couple of weeks ago Maria of BD indicated the organic drape of a cardigan sweater.  I could only roll my eyes.

Most things like that don't bother me. I figure everyone has sayings, words used, or speech nuances that bother someone so I just tend to try and focus on what they are trying to say and not how they say it.

David's EXTRAORDINARY.  It's so bizarre because he uses it all the time.. on everything.

Re: Basically is the new literally

On one of the old "Ellen" shows, a cute little boy used that word all the time.  It was so adult yet coming from a child.  Think his grandfather was raising him, with a bit of mention of his mother.  So maybe, it's a child's word for now.  There's worse words they could be picking up from some adults, so this one isn't bad.

Re: Basically is the new literally

@sabatini , that was my first thought! I've been watching reruns of Judge Judy and she just freaks out when anyone, and most everyone does, starts with "basically".

Seems we all need to use filler words. I have a bad habit of saying "so" when starting to say something. I'm a middle child so I always think I need to get everyone's attention before starting to talk, lol.

I'm guessing that those on these shopping channels just need to keep adding any filler word since their jobs are to talk. So, I am literally not a fan of talking and basically try to stay quiet much of the timeWoman LOL

Re: Basically is the new literally

I dont mind the fad of using words often, what I do object to is taking regular everyday words and changing their meaning  especially to condemn people of being supposedly wrong in their feelings or actions by a particular group of people.
