I hope I don't offend anyone here, because I certainly don't want to.  I respect everyone's answers, because there is no "ultimate guide to what you should gift," right?  We wing it.  But as a mom with two adult children -- married, they have their own homes, it doesn't seem that the young people want the Bible, rosaries, cups, crosses...  And I know many of them go to church, have faith in the Lord.  But it's that young people don't seem to display or collect like my generation did -- which is not a bad thing!  I've ried to give my sons and their wives sets of china, crystal, Hummels, collectibles -- and they just like a simpler, lifestyle.  Do you all agree or am I crazy?

An adult friend was recently baptized. I gave her $100.

It all depends on the views of the parents. When I gave the Bible to a friend’s daughter for her first born, I knew they were very “religious”. The couple met at their church & he was the choir master at their current church. She still volunteers & teaches Sunday School. So for that family, a bible was greatly appreciated & they loved the gift.

My niece’s son & wife are very different. I gave them a silver engraved cup from Tiffany. I have no children of my own & am very close to my niece & her kids. Her son & dil were childhood sweethearts so I know her very well as she was always at family events.

So bottom line, it depends on the relationship & how much you know about the recipient as to what is appropriate as a gift.
