Re: Bahamas travel warning issued by US Embassy

I live in South Florida and there is crime every day on the news. Still, I feel safe in my home thanks to impact doors and windows, alarm system, outdoor lights and ring camera. No reason to worry here, lol.

There will always be an issue wherever a person lives. If it isn't crime it is mother nature with earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, fires, etc.

The Advisory for Japan has been similar for years....Level One.  (Use normal precautions.)

Here is the whole text:

Japan – Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions

Reissued after periodic review without changes.

Exercise normal precautions in Japan.

Read the country information page for additional information on travel to Japan.

If you decide to travel to Japan:

  • Enroll in the Smart Traveller Enrollment Program to receive Alerts and make it easier to locate you in an emergency.
  • Follow the Department of State on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Follow Embassy Tokyo’s American Citizen Services section on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Review the Country Security Report for Japan.
  • Visit the CDC page for the latest  Travel Health Information related to your travel.
  • Prepare a contingency plan for emergency situations. Review the Traveler's Checklist (In Japan, earthquakes and tsunamis mean that the Customs people take down into about every traveller's whereabouts for the duration of the visit. They check fingerprints, too.

Because of a long period of playing the violin, I have no fingerprints on my left index finger. Customs and Immigration were vexed by the lack of fingerprints on my index finger, but when I offered a thumb, that worked out.

Japan is a very safe country. The only trouble I ever have there is that I simply can't read the language on signs. They use 3 separate kinds of lettering, combining Chinese ideographs, regular Japanese, and simplified Japanese.

Re: Bahamas travel warning issued by US Embassy

It's crazy how LR has changed.  I remember her always saying on air she is not a beach person as she would much prefer to be in Europe traveling and seeing the sites.  Now it seems as though she is all in on the beach front.  I really hope she stays true to herself and not feel like she has to compromise to please her new husband.  The sisters are rarely spoken about now and it seems like she has chosen this new life with a 180 turn in what she enjoyed in the past.  I am a little skeptical of her choices right now and it doesn't feel like she is living the life she dreamed about.

Re: Bahamas travel warning issued by US Embassy

@Shelbella262…It was nice to see Lisa in her latest Facebook cooking segment from yesterday. On another note, Jeff is constantly mentioned and how this was “his dream” + he’s never leaving. Sort of painful to watch. I wonder what Lisa’s dream was. Was it having a wedding w/ none of her old friends there, closing her business, putting her house up for sale, buying another house in a crime ridden country, and losing all her old friends and apparently some family members that are no longer mentioned .🤔 It appears that every drastic move she’s made in the last year is Jeff pushing her to do it. All about her money! A poster on cooking segment asked why she wasn’t tan and Lisa replied she didn’t care for being in the sun. The posters also kept on asking her about the crime (all this weekend on every news show Bahamas was in the news + internet about Bahamas rampant crime) and she made excuses and said how every place has it. Her father was mentioned, but absolutely not 1 sister or her brother was mentioned. Also another poster asked why Jeff wasn’t there and she said he’s out doing guy things w/ his buddy.

Re: Bahamas travel warning issued by US Embassy

It's always good to pay attention to the warnings for travel. Heck I pay attention to my surroundings wherever I am.

I went to the USVI in the early 90's to deliver a proposal. I stayed in a hotel in a closed resort and felt relatively safe. I asked the hotel concierge to get me a taxi so I could deliver the proposal. She looked at the address and the first thing she told me was "don't let the driver leave you, have him wait".  I take good advice when people offer it. I was only going to be in the building 5 to 10 minutes while I had them sign for my package.

the driver was great. He waited and then took me to Charlotte Amalie so I could be a tourist until my flight departed later in the day. I got a cab to the airport and happily everything was fine.

In my opinion these days, it's a good idea to simply be mindful of your surroundings no matter where you are.

@Coastalcarolina. No bashing from me. It’s an interesting viewpoint that did not cross my mind.

@KKlim he's "out doing guy things with his buddy???"

Okay.....kindof immature for a man of his age.
