Snow squalls coming off the Great Lakes are creating dangerous driving conditions in the Northeast today.  The snow squalls combined with fog have been blamed for a serious pile up on Interstate 81 in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  Video shows a tanker truck on fire.  Several cars and trucks, present count up to 50, have piled up.  There are injuries.  The coroner is now on the scene, but no confirmed deaths at this point.

Near Mile Marker 116

Exits 112 (Hegins) to 119 (Highridge Park Road) have been closed.

Does any of that area seem familiar to you?

@maximillian    Thank you.   I know that area.   It's been a long time since PA had a pile up nearly as bad as this one.

I doubt I will ever drive in the ice or snow again.  I don't love the extreme south Florida heat, but I don't dislike it the way I dislike the cold.

FOSTER TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)

State Police have told Eyewitness News that at least 50 cars are involved in the crash. They also say that there have been numerous injuries, but are not confirming any fatalities at this time.

Police are saying that a snow squall that occurred around 10:30 a.m. is the cause of the crash.

I'm in east central Pa. and it's been lightly snowing since mid morning off and on and is snowing again. Sorry to hear of this terrible accident. Prayers for all involved.

Continuing breaking news about this pileup:  sadly, I just read that there have been at least 5 deaths.  More heartbreak.
