 We were sound asleep last night. I heard a noise in the house, dismissed it as the side by side refrigerator making noise, just dozed off again , then, I heard a louder noise, fearing somebody had broke in I jumped out of bed and ran to the living room and my ceiling about 3x3 ft section had collapsed

Dry wall broke, insulation all wet and soggy fell on my hardwood floor bits of insulation on my side table and lamp , some on my new couch, insulation had blew everywhere. I hollered for husband he came a-running LOL

He saw it and hollered WTF ! I said Santa came in thru the ceiling instead of the fireplace. 

Now, we're trying to get somebody to shut off the humidfier to the furnace up in the attic. Must of been the culprit only source of water up there, plus, I got to get somebody who does drywall.

Maybe a roof leak???

@SharkE  That would have really scared me. Sounds like a mess. 

I’ve never heard of a humidifier up in an attic but I live in the Midwest and I’m not familiar with what other parts of the country do.

Never rains in Tx. so nothing to do with rain. We haven't had rain in 4 months. We and Cal. always having wildfires. 

One time before my husband and another man was up there messing with TV cable. We were afraid the other guy who weighs 300 pds might fall thru the rafters, but, it was my husband whose foot came slamming thru the ceiling missing my head by inches down below. He'll go maybe 150 and he didn't stay on the rafters and misjudged his steps and here comes a leg thru the ceiling.

I screamed AARGHHhhhhhhhhhhhh  !  ROFL

Dry as a bone in Tx. why we had the humidifier on the furnace.

We're forgetting that thing, though, going strictly stand alone units

@SharkE oh that's bad right before Christmas.I think you will have a hard time finding someone to do repairs.I hope I am wrong though.Keep us updated.

what would you have done if it was an intruder staring you in the eyes....you should have taken your backup with you?

@SharkE.  I told you to get a swamp cooler.  Every house I've owned has come with a humidifier and not a single one has ever worked.

True ! In the heat of the moment you don't think and this ordinarily is a pretty safe area, and I got the sheriff on one side of me too. LOL

If I would had hollered for hubbo he would have flew into a rage for waking him up and I'd been better off with the intruder. LOL

we looked into swamp coolers and be pricey to add to house and then the maintenance. He didn't want to fool with them, so, I'll sit in the summer time still smothering like I have for the first 7 yrs.

Anything to do with water we seem to have bad luck with anyway.

@SharkE, what a pain!  Good luck with the cleanup.  Timing just downright awful!  LM
