I am just thankful you were not near your car. We had a similar incident happen in a parking lot with our brand new car. Sometimes life just ..well you know.

Hope everything works out @Moonchilde. Sorry you had such a rough day...

@ Moonchilde, you have been on my mind....mentally, how are you dealing with this? What you saw had to be horrific, and yes I know you worked in a hospital, but once you are away from that scene, the desensitization that you had while working fades....it's a terrible thing what happened to your car....Thank G-d you were not in it!!! What a nightmare.....

@Moonchilde  Was the driver elderly?  There seem to be frequent parking lot incidents where older driver put their foot on the gas instead of the brake.  I'm not sure how that happens but it's very common.

A couple years ago a elderly man here came out of Applebee's, got in his car, went to back out of parking place and shot straight ahead mowing over a landscape employee who was trimming a hedge.  The poor victim died.

I can't be sure, because people dye their hair, but by what I saw I'd say in her 50s. She had called out for help before the accident saying she coudn't control/stop her car. What I don't understand is why not hit the BRAKE?

Or put the car in neutral and shut if off!   Did she exit her vehicle while it was out of control? I was curious how the door hit her?

Almostall I know is heresay since it was all "done" by the time most people went out to look. But I too wondered not only about putting it in Neutral and shutting it off. I think it all happened very fast, and the womam probably panicked.

Yes, she apparently did exit the car while it was still moving, and that's how she was injured. They think she was trying to stop the car by her body weight. Futile, but we all do crazy things under severe stress.

Hi, @Poodlepet2,

I'm okay. I didn't see very much as the paramedics got there very quickly and from that point on you couldn't see, they were surrounding him. But yes, I certainly saw blood. And the poor woman driver was kneeling beside him, horrified. They moved her away, but she just sat on the asphalt while they tried to calm her down and assess her injuries. She was in shock. Others said the victim was unresponsive and unmoving but I had no firsthand knowledge of that.

Thanks to everyone for your good wishes and concern.

No one has been able to find anything out about the man who was hit or the driver. There has been nothing on the news at all - not TV, news website or internet. Since this is a small rural area I had thought it would be "news" for sure. I guess it would appear if the man dies. There's nothing on the FB page of the company he works for, either.

I have reported all to my insurance company. Because it's a small company with headquarters 500+ mi south of me, and they have no adjusters anywhere near me, I will be contacted in the next couple of days by a contracted adjuster for their estimate, and then I can go anywhere I like. At that point I'll call the body shop my niece liked, and I'll call the local Hyundai dealership to see what's up with them. At least I have car rental insurance. If they don't contact me, I'll be bugging them.

This is all happening while my family is leaving town for 5-6 days, I'm having a TV Fedexed & needs setting up, and it's my birthday the following week. I can't make any plans even to go to the grocery store in case someone calls. Gaah!  Yes I have a cell phone but that's another story I've discussed in Electronics - no service at my house.

Do you ever have "what if (I hadn't) gone there at that time, parked in a different spot" etc thoughts?

There's a new restaurant in our local area. I decided to go today, for lunch. Could have been any day, any time, but I went today.

I had a choice of several places to park, but wanted to park in front of the restaurant since I could. Went inside and was having my lunch.

Suddenly, huge commotion outside in the greater parking lot, and people runnning out of the restaurant OMG!-ing.

A woman was having trouble with her car (Lexus SUV) - it was out of control/out of gear and moving out of her control. She was screaming for help. Two guys came running up to help her - and exactly how no one's sure yet, but the car didn't stop and just flat ran one of them over - seriously over. Blood everywhere. Victim not moving. The woman was also injured when the door hit her. She was hysterical at what had happened. Both were transported to the hospital by ambulance. The guy hit appeared severely injured.

The out of control car swung around and came to rest hard against my car. The left rear bammed into my driver's side door right where the door lock is. My heart sank. The whole left side of my car is all bunged and crumpled with huge white gouges made by the car. If I'd been in the car I likely would have had some neck/musculoskeletal owws.

Since both parties were transported, the only info I have until I get the police report is the make, model and lic plate. The CHP said the woman does have insurance. My deductible is $500, and I'll probably have to fork it out before I get reimbursed :-( At least I have car rental insurance. They have to send someone to my house to evaluate repair cost because their nearest facility is over an hour's drive. Lucky me :-(

Yes, I know I'm very lucky I'm not the victim or the driver, I feel horrible about them. I hop to learn if the driver is okay and pulls through. But it's going to be such a hassle.

Happy Monday to me.

I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say thank God you are all right. It could have been such a worse Monday for you. 🌸

Re: Bad Afternoon

[ Edited ]

I feel many have had those days, why did this happen, why did that happen. why did i go here or there.

believe me, i know what it feels like to have your car parked legally and something hits it. talk about anger. oh my gosh, every 3-5 word was coming out of my mouth yelling.  My daughter told me to calm down, cars can be repaired.

deep breath, you are in one piece. you have insurance. car will be repaired (yes a hassle to have to rent a car for a week or two) but car will be repaired.

I do hope those 2 men who came to the aid of the  lady whose car went beserk and was seriously injuried are well cared for and heal properly.

I am so sorry to see this @Moonchilde.  Prayers for those people involved.  Heart

I've been on both sides of this.

I've had my car roll down a hill on me even with the emergency brake on and I still have the scars to show for it trying desperately to stop it.  It's horrible.  The most helpless, awful feeling you can ever have in your life.

I didn't even realize how bad I was hurt until I saw the blood all over my legs about 20 minutes later.  By some miracle it hit nothing and I was able to drive it back unscathed.  St. Jude got a big donation of thanks from me for that one.  It still frightens me when I see things like this.

And my car has been in the shop twice in the past 3 years because of other people.  I know what a horrible inconvenience it is but thank God only your car was in the path and not you. You'd have even more of an inconvenience and definitely less health.

More prayers that all of you recover and get through this.  HeartHeartHeart

Thank you, @Laura14

I hope there will be some word on the man's condition - everyone in the area is upset about this. Some people know who he is, but have not given out his name (rightfully so) or his condition if they know it. By all accounts, great guy, nice family. Such a shame. And the poor woman - if I'd been in her shoes I might have been hysterical too.

I just hope things go as smoothly as possible for me now. Fingers crossed.
