Hi everyone - just a quick stop to say hello. Queen Sue especially glad to see you!!!!

Fixed a great stew for dinner - lots left so will leave some here - come on and help eat it up. Really a good stew.

Have a great Sunday tomorrow - am picking up two friends and we are heading to church early as we were volunteered to help with some things. We go to the early service so have to be there earlier than that. Geesh. That's ok, will head out and find a good place to eat later on.

Again, have a super Sunday.

Turned out to be much warmer than they said it would be. Very nice. When we were coming home from the grocery store Friday as we were going down a two lane highway there sat a woman in a scooter sitting In The divider lane Merle slowed down almost causing a rear end incident. She sweetly looked up and waved us on. It was beginning to be dusk so we were concerned. I watched out the back window and she finally got across. I figured she was headed to her home. The very next day we were on the same road but clear at the opposite end and I catch a glimpse of a scooter. Look I said isn't that the same lady. Merle said I was just going to ask you that. She headed into a service station that was a mini mart. Someone held the door for her and in she went. This was quite a distance from the first time we saw her so I have no idea where she might live. Both times she had a light weight purple windbreaker on. It was drizzling rain the second time and she had put a plastic bag over the seat back. I certainly hope I don't read about her getting hit. It is a heavily traveled road. I wanted to go In that mart and try to learn more about her but my hubby said myob. There are no assisted living places on that road so don't know what to think. It reminded me of that poem that says when I grow old I will wear purple

Yock, I am familiar with wanting to help someone who looks vulnerable. In my old neighborhood, safety was an issue. We had lots of older Polish women who would take the city bus (which hadn't adhered to the 20 minutes arrival schedule since the 60's). From the time I was 16 and got my license, when I would see an older neighborhood lady, I would say, Misses (in Polish, don't know how to spell it, can just say a few words) can I take you home - you are going to get your head blocked in. I'd usually reference my grade school, church, pastor of the church so they knew I was from the old neighborhood and not some ax murdered (lol).

Sometimes it worked, sometimes not - they could be fiercely independent.

The lady you saw may live within distance of the mini mart. Since you've seen her twice, I would assume she is knowledgeable with the battery life of the scooter in relation to scooting to and from the mini mart. She probably goes there often to get out of the house, chat with someone and generally feel independent.

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Hi everyone. Epi, you continue to be a busy lady and we expect to see you back here in a few days.

Betty, that is an interesting story about the lady on a scooter.Years ago we use to see those things everywhere - haven't seen a scooter in years and years now. Perhaps they are no longer legal on our streets. Traffic is generally so congested out here they removed a lot of things like that as being unsafe. I know there are certain vehicles also no longer allowed on the freeways. That is a good thing but they now allow motorcycles to drive in between vehicles on the freeway or anywhere. That is soooooo scarey to have those things driving on the line between lanes right up next to you within inches - I think it is very unsafe as motorcycles also are often difficult to see - lots of blind spots. I am always afraid I will hit one as the least turn of your wheel could cause serious problems.

Quite chilly this morning - the gas man should be here to check my heater and light the pilot light. They give you a waiting time of from 7 a.m. to noon. That is ridiculous. I could have sworn the state imposed smaloler wait times - like three hours only - am sure they did but then the utility companies seem to be able to do what they would like to do. I may head up to the drugstore later today to get my shingles shot. I do NOT like shots but feel that is an important one. Never thought much about them until this year.

Hope all have a great day.

Hi All, It beautiful here in West Virginia. The leaves are almost all changed color. this morning it's in the 50's, so looking to be a nice day. Dog already had one walk. she'll take a nap and let you know when it time again to walk. She would run up and down these hills all day if she were allowed. she is getting older so my daughter sometimes puts her on a long lead as she doesn't know when to stop. got up late and my DD made me eggs and had cinnamon rolls all cooked. she is a Dear Daughter!!!! hope everyone has a good day Smiley Happy

It was lovely here today. Not quite as warm as I'd like but at least we had sun. There was frost on the ground this morning and some of the schools were delayed because of the fog I don't know if anyone on this thread remembers Nanny Bear but she died in September. She was on the original shop talk. I did post it on electronics since that was one of her favorite places. Gail posted a link to her obit which showed her picture. She interacted with a lot of people.

Was so disappointed to hear about Bobbye - aka NannyBear. She was a tough lady but I absolutely adored her. Like you Betty, I kept in touch with her when she left the boards but then she disappeared - could NOT get her to answer. I think she was terribly hurt by some things said and implied - why oh why do we sometimes have to act like first class idiots. She was a loss to these boards although like I said, she COULD - and DID - get tough. STill adored her. First class all the way. She like so many other great people left, some due to health reasons, other reasons but they left and those of us remaining were the losers.

Hey people, it is plumb HOT here today but the nights have been freezing. Wore a sweatshirt and sweater to Curves this morning and the sweater came off there and about an hour after I got home the sweatshirt came off. What can I say.

Epi sure sounds beautiful in W Va. I have always missed the gorgeous colors I experienced in RAleigh, NC growing up - still miss that marvelous place. We out here in Sou Cal only have dirt, brown grass or NO grass everything so horrible due to the excess heat and drought. Heard the other day this summer was the hottest in 100 plus years - I BELIEVE IT!!!!!!

Hope all had a great day. By the way am cooking a roast with sweet onions in the slow cooker, separately cooking mashed potatoes and collards. Cannot get any better than that in my opinion!!!

Fencers ~ I did not have the pleasure of posting with your friend Nanny Bear. I am very sorry for your loss.

Hi Ladies. I posted here a day or so ago and my post landed in cyber space and I just didn't want to repost so didn't.

I remember lots of things about NannyBear, but was so new to BB's I didn't fraternize with anyone until the BackFence started. She may have posted some here, just don't remember. I was fascinated that she could make posts disappear. She certainly knew a lot about computers and it was all new to me. Seems like Jody went to see here once and sent us a picture of her and her bears; sorry to hear of her death.

Saw my pulmonologist this week. He sent me to the hospital for a catscan and lab work, but still doesn't know what else to do for me. Of course I'm doing much better since I don't have to walk (and breathe at the same time)Smileas I have my trusty dusty wheels to get me where I wanna go now. Ah the freedom it affords! But that doesn't mean my lungs are improving and seemingly they are not. But I'm thankful I'm able to do what I do. For instance Jim and I went to a new place for lunch today and had delicious (stop your ears, Freddie)catfish! Oh, my it was just delectable!!! Of course that means more work for Jim as he has to load my scooter on and off the van and that takes time and effort, but he never complains.

Epi your getaway sounds delightful! It must be absolutely beautiful there. Glad you're feeling like getting out and doing things.

BirdMama, what's the origin of Sweetness Day? Loved the little fenced cake or at least I thought it was a cake. Sorry you had to take a vacation day to mow your lawn{#emotions_dlg.crying}

Betty, nice of you to have been concerned about the scooter lady. We see them in our little town occasionally and even in Amarillo which is a much larger city, but if it's one's only means of transportation and they have need of something or simply have the need to get out of the house, guess they do what they can. But I agree it seems dangerous to me and I sure hope I never get desperate enough to have to do it.

Freddie, hope you have some of that roast and onion left to share. I'll provide the croissant's and iced tea if you do.

Well, guess I'll try to post this and hope it doesn't fly away as did my previous post. Hope all of you have a nice Saturday and beginning of the new week on Sunday.

Happy Friday all! Sue
