This past summer I attended the best baby shower ever! The food was great, the setting was lovely, and the greatest thing: NO GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Jane...just wanted to relay two things that were done for my DIL.

The guests were given note cards and asked to write down their best piece of advice for the mother to be. Everyone enjoyed when we they were read and many helpful things were offered.

Another thing that was done was that each guest was requested to bring their favorite children's book for the new baby. They loved doing this and most put a heartfelt message on the inside cover of the book. They were wonderful lasting memories.

Another one is give everyone a safety pin. (Diaper pins it used to be but I doubt those are used anymore). If someone says "baby" "boy" or "girl" whoever hears them say it can take their pin. The one who ends up with the most pins wins.

Another one is like a door prize. You hand out kleenexes folded like diapers and whoever has one with the yellow stain wins.

Another one is a typical shower game for baby or bridal. In the baby shower case you fill a tray with baby items, lotion, powder, safety pins, soap, rattle, binky, etc. etc. Then you show it around and then give people x amount of time to write down as many things as they can remember.

These are very old games. You might find some more current ones on google.

I don't particularly care for the games, but here is what I have been subjected to (in addition to those already posted).

Melted chocolate bars (minis) into disposable diapers to look like poo. Then those who guess what caused the stains correctly win.

Use TP squares to guess the circumference of the mom to be's belly (personally I think it's rude, but oh well).

Use a timer and set it for different amounts. When the timer goes off, the person whose present is being opened gets a prize.

The delayed gratification one is the prediction of the delivery date, the weight, and length, and the one who guesses correctly wins a prize to be sent out.

If it is a co-ed party, couples tasks like diapering a doll, opening and closing a stroller, or installing a carseat are part of a race for the winner.

You can also do baby trivia- things about allergies, CPR, delivery facts, old wives' tales, etc.

oh, just remembered another one!

we were given a sheet of paper with animal names on it.....you then had a set period of time to come up with the baby names of those animals. whoever got the most correct won the prize.

example:

chicken....... chick

deer......fawn

duck ......duckling

elephant.....calf

I remember playing this game once. It was fun. But I can't remember what the stain was. Either peanut butter or mustard.

I hate these games!!! Personally if they did away with them, I think more people would be willing to attend, but that is just me!

Please consider no games. Most folks just want to socialize.
