Re: BAD RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

Why would anyone penalize the waitress over this?  She didn't cook the food so none of this was her fault.

I'm not sure how chicken becomes tart or what that even means.  Did it have some type of lemon sauce over it or was it cooked with lemon?  I ordered a chicken dish once that had a lemon sauce and it was way, way too much lemon and I couldn't even eat the dish.  I had ordered it before and it was fine but I'm guessing it was a different cook the second time around.

In the interest of good will, many times if a waitress or manager sees you don't care for the dish, they offer to bring you something else.  I had that happen at a restaurant before.  I didn't ask for something different but the waitress saw I wasn't eating and asked about my food.  I told her I didn't care for it but there wasn't anything wrong with it.  The manager immediately came over and offered me something else and didn't charge me for the second dish.

I've also had food taken off my bill, without me asking, if the waitress took back a plate of uneaten food because I didn't care for it.

I don't think Yelp intervenes it just lets people express what happened and how your food  was.

I just wanted to warn people about food containing peanuts ,and it isn't listed on the menu, that way

In the food service industry, Yelp reviews are used by management to "grade" employees, a raise or bonus could depend on it.

And it's not just food service, my DD formerly worked for a bike shop and their serivce department was evaluated on Yelp reviews.   When customers paid their bill, they were given a card with details on how to access Yelp and the customer was asked to leave a good review.

Your request was reasonable, most eateries believe in "good will" and will make things right.

On Friday night, our bill was $136 at a "specialty restaurant."   There were plenty of tables, but we were asked to "move on" after 2 hours of dining.   I saw plenty of other 'tables for 6' close to us.  Waiter said (this was 8 pm) that he needed to reserve that table for another party.  Really?   Exact same size tables beside us.

Like you, tip 15% since it was waiter who said it, not manager.   Goodbye to my favorite restaurant!

@mercyMe  Maybe it wasn't just you.  We used to have anniversary dinners at a restaurant that had 6, 8 and on holidays 10 p.m. seatings.  However, they should have mentioned that up front so you would know.  Sorry that happened.  That's rude.  That could have been avoided.

Re: BAD RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

Everyone has had a bad meal or poor service at some time.  Since the manager apparently did not care, then there are several options.

First, try to find the owner and let them know.  You can then post on Facebook, but keep in mind that they can delete the posts.

You can post on Yelp andd TripAdvisor.

The last thing that you can do is tell everyone you know about the restaurant.  Word of mouth can work very well.

There is no way that I would return to a restaurant with unprofessional management who treated you so badly.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

Re: BAD RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

So ladies, if you order an entree and you don't like it, you expect the

restaurant to replace it?

I ordered the wrong thing many times thinking I would like it and I didn't.

Just my opinion and yes, I wasn't there.

So on YELP, you're going to say that 2 entree's were delicious and the third one was not to her liking and the restaurant yelled at you because they didn't offer to replace the entree she didn't like.  OK that's fair.

Re: BAD RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

There is nothing more you can do.  You spoke with the people who could have made it right; including the owner.  I am surprised that didn't just take it back and give her another meal.  I think most good restaurants would have done that to make a customer happy.  It sounds like they thought she ordered something, didn't like it and wanted to return it for another meal. Which might have been the case but it wouldn't have cost them anything to take it back.  Yelling at you was even worse, that makes me think that perhaps you didn't handle it as diplomatically has you could have.  I assume the "kitchen manager" was actually the really the Executive Chef or the Head Chef.  Hope you didn't refer to him as a "kitchen manager" to his face or to the server.  If you did, that would explain why this thing went so badly for you.  In a situation like this, when something is "off".  You quietly, without alerting other diners, ask to speak to manager and without criticising the dish, you explain that the taste is "off" or "too salty" or that there was "too much sauce" and then you ask if they can substitute the meal for something else.  Of course, the diner cannot make such a request after she has eaten half the meal.

I think they should have offered you another meal or not charged you for the dinner...

Re: BAD RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

I'd say that this restaurant should be crossed off your list of places to eat. I've never seen that kind of behavior in a restaurant. Usually at the nice restaurants, the waitress comes and asks if everything is to satisfaction. If there is even a small complaint, they either send a new order, ask if they'd like to order something else, or strike the meal from the bill. That's how a restaurant gets return customers.

Re: BAD RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

It sounds like that elite restaurant may be facing some financial challenges.  Maybe it is having a slump in business during the summer?

When you consider the price of high-quality food and over overhead costs (you mentioned there was a leak in the ceiling) it might be a financial necessity for them to handle the situation with you the way they did.

The way you were treated leads me to believe there are behind-the-scenes issues that you, as a customer, are not aware of with good cause.

Indeed.   Restaurants depend on good will and word of mouth.  Which makes this thing even more bizarre.  It's like they went out of their way to antagonize a paying customer.
