Automatic Soap Dispenser, Any Recommendations?

I want to buy an automatic soap dispenser but which one. Does anyone have experience with them and can tell me which to buy and which to avoid. Thanks

Re: Automatic Soap Dispenser, Any Recommendations?

I wanted one at my kitchen sink and spontaneously purchased the Lysol one when I was at the supermarket one day. It served its purpose, but there were times when my hand or something passed by unaware, triggering the sensor accidentally, and I ended up with a soap being dispensed on the ledge of the sink or window sill (depending where I had the dispenser stationed). I eventually went back to a manual pump bottle.

We use a Simple Human Automatic Soap Dispenser from Bed Bath and Beyond. We love it. I really like having the touchless dispenser. We buy the large Softsoap refill bottles and use that in it.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I was just going to make that same comment. You can't clean around one of those without it dispensing a stream of soap. And don't even think about having one where kids will use it. {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}They are too messy.

I also tried the Lysol one and besides the accidental dripping, the soap itself was really thick and more like slimey hand lotion. I never felt like it was cleaning my hands. I'll stick with my Method foaming soap pump.

Re: Automatic Soap Dispenser, Any Recommendations?

The reason those were invented was to prevent germs from being passed but if you touch the pump before you wash then wash with the antibacterial soap, the germs should be gone so those are just money makers and appear unnecessary. That being said, I did try several to prevent dirty marks on the manual pump and found all to be so messy as they dripped and were set off so many times by small movements near. If you do get one, some sort of mat under to catch these drippings is suggested as once they dry, it's harder to scrap them off.

Re: Automatic Soap Dispenser, Any Recommendations?

We have a double sink in our kitchen. We have it sitting on the counter, on the side of the left sink, right on the edge of the counter, as it meets the sink. And it hangs over the edge of the sink. So if it's ever set off accidentally , it the soap falls into the sink, not on the counter. I've never gotten the soap on the counter.

Has anyone ever seen a study of how many germs are passed by handwashing with bar soap? This whole premise seems like overkill to me, but I'd be more than willing to be proven wrong. Smiley Happy

I've been using one from Willians-Sonoma for around five years. Works great.

Re: Automatic Soap Dispenser, Any Recommendations?

I have a Lysol brand dispenser. It does the job. Haven't tried any others so can't compare this one to others.

I had my hub drill a hole into the top of the empty Lysol soap container and using a small funnel, I refill the container with hand soap I buy in large bottles at Costco. The Costco soap has no fragrance so I put drops of essential oil into the soap to make it smell pretty. If the small hole bothers you, put a cork in it.

Re: Automatic Soap Dispenser, Any Recommendations?

Thank you all.

I've decided on a Simplehuman, the new small sleek one. I had considered the rechargeable one but it's over $60 and there were some negative reviews on Amazon about it malfunctioning after a couple of months. The one I've decided on is in the $30 range so if it turns into another bad decision I won't have invested much in it.
