My Dad won some medals in WW11 including a purple heart. When we were kids they were in his dresser drawer. If we asked him he would bring them out so we could see them or show them to our friends. The purple heart was most beautiful and impressive. He suffered for the remainder of his life due to the injuries he recieved. When he passed away we donated them to a memorial nere in Pittsburgh called Soldiers and Sailors memorial where they are on display along with the story of his bravery obtaining them. He also had a bronze star and a silver star.
