Re: Attention Denizens of Arizona

@Kachina624

Temps in the 110's.  This morning it was 81 at 5:30 am.  But, you know all about that.

We  bring our plants insdie in the summer instead of the winter!

And, it is mall walking for me this time of year.

Re: Attention Denizens of Arizona

It makes sense that what people in the heat of the summer do is exactly what those in freezing climates do---avoid it by staying inside.

I could probably handle high heat better than extreme cold, but no matter what, I would be extremely depressed if living where there was little to no rainfall, even if that were the norm.

Although, too many rainy days in a row can get me down, too.  I don't mind cloudy days, though.  I prefer them in the summer.

I love when it pours at night, it's like Mother Nature house cleaning, washing all the dust, dirt and sand away.

@SilleeMee    That's what I love about my swamp cooler.  The only operating costs are a small fan, pump and some water, maybe $30/mo.  It was 105° here today but it was 70° in my house.

I've lived in houses with swamp coolers in the past and it was great. I keep thinking maybe I should get one in my house soon. Climate seems to not be getting any cooler.Woman Tongue

@SilleeMee    I'm guessing the climate where you live is not dry enough for a swamp cooler to be effective, too humid.  They're generally used in the desert.  I know the efficiency of mine decreases when it rains.

Yes, you're right about that. It was in Grand Junction where I had swamp coolers and the climate is much drier on that side of the state. I think everyone I knew in GJ had one in their house. Some people here in COS have them, too, but I'll bet they only work well some of the time.

When one lives in the conditions as we here in Arizona do, we live accordingly.  Anyone who exposes themselves to the heat is foolish and has no one but themselves to blame if they get sick.

I'm so glad we have solar panels. Don't have to worry about sky high electric bills.

The official high in Tucson today was 117, broke the record for the day of 110.  It is after midnite right now and 94 degrees.

I was there when it hit the low 100'sF.  I thought that was excessive heat!  Although I was in Dallas once (on my way to Mexico) and it was pretty darn hot!  I remember at the time thinking it was just as hot as Phoenix.   I believe in climate change, and places like Phoenix are numbered in people being able to live there.  Perhaps certain parts of Texas too. I would love to see how much cooler Arizona is in the mountains!

@Ladygray Don’t you love the summer solstice? I get excited when the days start to get shorter. And it’s coming soon!

Yep.  Very soon now.  Afterwards it's a FAST (and I do mean fast) rush toward winter.  Each day getting a tiny big shorter and a tiny bit cooler.  After June 21, everything seems to slide past.
