I am attending the wedding of my daughters college roommate it is in NYC. That being said it is at a conservative church in the morning. I normally wear black but am thinking this would be the wrong choice.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Black is fine! imho

Maybe a rich jewel tone blue would work?

I see nothing wrong with black if that's what you are comfortable with. My daughter just attended a daytime wedding in Seattle and wore black and looked beautiful. Maybe add color with your shoes, bag, or jewelry.
Welcome back!

I was thinking maybe a pretty dark blue the bridesmaids (which my daughter is one of them) are wearing royal blue so I don't want to match her.
Is gray an option or does it have to be a dove gray?

I feel most comfortable in black I am short 5'4 and a size 12/14 so black makes me feel slim.

Most people going to a wedding don't even know what color the bridesmaids are wearing until they see them, so now we aren't allowed to wear the same color as the bridesmaids? Good grief!

I still think you could wear a dark blue, as long as it wasn't the exact same shade as the bridesmaids.
I also think dark gray is an option, maybe brighten it up with a rich color, shoes/bag/scarf.

Wearing black to a wedding is fine. Just make sure if it is a hot day, you don't wear long sleeves.
