Re: At what length do you stop (or never start) reading discussions here?

I stay away from Long treads.  Some of the threads get so long its like just get each others emails and make friendships.

I never read more than 5 pages, sometimes not even that. I try to answer the question or respond to the post as the poster asked it. I get so tired of people reading something into posts that just isn't there, but I have done that myself a few times.

I don't mind reading through pages and pages of comments.

What  I can't read is run on sentences and long, long paragraphs. I lose interest quickly.

Re: At what length do you stop (or never start) reading discussions here?

The turn offs for me are the complaint threads; same people with problems that’s never their fault.

I also stop reading once someone skims the post, misses key words leading to misunderstanding the whole point, and starts pages of responses that do not even apply to what was written.

I lose interest with string along posts where the underlying details that make all the difference to an answer, don’t come out until many pages later.

My whole point in responding to a post is to be helpful, encouraging, or present an entirely different perspective.    My life has been very different from the majority of posters here, and I am proud that my views and experiences are also very different.

If the topic grabs my interest I'll read the first post, then maybe the first page.  If I'm still interested I'll read the last page to see if the conversation has developed into something more interesting or not.  If so, I read backwards to the point that I started.

It depends upon the topic.  If it’s one that interests me I’ll follow it until it fizzles out or until it takes a turn from the topic originally discussed.

[ Edited ]

Once the mods start deleting posts, I know the arguments and baiting have derailed the conversation and I quit.

i also dislike scrolling through lengthy quoted posts. Most of it is now in gradient font and unreadable.

I usually read all posts to see exact where the thread flies off the rails.

If I see that the OP doesn't use paragraphs in a huge, long discussion, I'm out.
