Re: At what age does forgetfulness set in ?

@Goodie2shoes

I don't think you have a memory problem at all.  You were obviously very stressed and anxious from your grocery trip ( putting the clothes I wore into the laundry, sanitized my phone, and crossbody bag, threw my mask in the wash also). I think you just have "Covid-itis"! Eighteen months of this #@*% could make anybody forgetful, so don't be too hard on yourself.

Here's a quote from the Mayo Clinic: Stress, anxiety or depression can cause forgetfulness, confusion, difficulty concentrating and other problems that disrupt daily activities.

I rest my case.

Re: At what age does forgetfulness set in ?

Soooo...A couple of days ago a policeman came to our door.  He told my husband and me that a neighbor found a cell phone in his yard. The neighbor called the police to turn it in.  The kind policeman did some sleuthing and discovered our address.  Apparently my husband put the cell phone on top of the car, forgot it and drove off.  Cell phone found a block away.

Then...the next day my husband was taking our dog to the vet.  He left.  I found my dog laying on my bed.  He forgot to take the dog!

Oopsie!!!

Re: At what age does forgetfulness set in ?

Gone through a drive through and paid and then went home.  Husband asked where the food was.....That was when I was in my 30s.  Now at 70 I love my iphone so when I cannot remember stuff I can look it up.. I will be lying in bed at night trying to remember someones name etc..and have to get up and look it up so it does not drive me crazy.  I think part of my problems is that I am always doing ten at once and I cannot do that anymore.  If I put something on to cook I have to stay with it and not decide I will go iron some clothes and water the plants.  Once I put on eggs to boil and next thing I know I am hearing loud pops as I come out of the shower.  Water in the eggs was gone and eggs were hopping around.

Glad you remembered your groceries before your Halo turned into soup!  I think I have gotten worse since I stopped working.  I think not having all the details of my work kept my mind more sharp.  I do get a little concerned once in a while but so far, I don't think it's too bad.  I don't know if any of those supplements really work.....

[ Edited ]

@Goodie2shoes   Yes, around 68 I noticed some mild short term memory problems. I was raised around a lot of elderly people so I just thought it pretty normal and nothing out of the ordinary.  Then, I had open heart surgery and it left me with some pretty significant short term memory problems. They tell me it is from the anesthesia and the fact that the operation was so long.

Fast forward to a few months ago.  When I told the doctor who was going to do   my colonoscopy (a few months ago)  that I feared having anesthesia again because of damage already done to my brain during heart surgery,  I also asked if there was anything he could give me for my colonoscopy that would be more safe. I don't have the easiest bowel to travel through. He was glad I had informed him of this concern and told him what had happened.  He had already scheduled an anesthesiologist for me but told his nurse the name of another anesthesiologist to call instead.  The new anesthesiologist came in right before my colonoscopy and talked to me about giving me the safest thing for my brain and asked me...."Do you still want this, even if I tell you it may be a little uncomfortable" and I said, "Yes, I want to preserve what's left of my brain"...Ha!

Anyway, the  colonoscopy went well and I felt nothing.

I wanted to let you and others know that there are options out there that better protect the brain....at least for minor procedures.  This is something I had no knowledge of until this past year and I think it's important for people to know.  I never hear it talked about.

I honestly do not think there is anything wrong with your Memory. I think you are so pre-occupied with getting home and taking off your clothes and sanitizing everything that you are losing your focus. You are still living in fear. Please CALM DOWN...Stop being so nervous and believe me your MEMORY LOSS will be NO MORE.

It started for me when I was around 22.  I have never had a good memory.

Could it be that we're over-sanitizing  ourselves and over-spraying everything else?    (Just a thought)

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I read online that it starts around 40. Well I'm some years past that so I guess that explains why I had a severe case of memory loss this morning. I went to the grocery store, came home, performed my usual routine of putting the clothes I wore into the laundry, sanitized my phone, and crossbody bag, threw my mask in the wash also, got dressed and started to fix my breakfast when it suddenly dawned on me that I left the groceries in the car !!

Oh my goodness ! so I rush out to the car, got the groceries which included a pint of Halo Top ice cream ( thank goodness it hadn't melted) So I read online about a memory inhancement pill called Redimind that says over 95% of clinical study participants showed improved short term memory after taking the pill for 30 days.  Maybe I should look into that, anyone else dealing with funny moments of memory loss ? . Woman LOL

I'm about that age (40).  I have one story of forgetfulness.  One day I was shopping at the supermarket. I always set my purse in the flip-up child seat of the shopping cart.  After I finished shopping and loaded groceries into the car I returned the shopping cart to the Cart Corral and I took off in my car.  Five minutes into driving, I realized that I had left my purse with all my credentials, credit cards, and money in the shopping cart in the middle of the supermarket parking lot!  I drove back to the supermarket parking lot like a maniac and found one of the baggers who was gathering the carts.  I asked if he has seen a purse in one the carts!  He said "Inside."  He had taken the purse to customer service!  Ah, I was so lucky!
