At what age do you "let up" or let go of your child?

I sure would appreciate some input regarding my 17 year old son. He will be a Sr. this next school year. He gets aggravated with me when I ask questions about where he's going and what he's doing etc... Now he is wanting to go out of town with two brothers one 15 and the other 20 who I have never met. He just met them about a month ago. I am not comfortable about it. I admit I am over protective but I also realize that there is going to come a time when I am going to have to let up. What is reasonable and when?
