Wow, well I think that's what needs to start happening in these cases.

A six-year-old child??? Nothing about that is normal. Something about that is very wrong.
Well thats the thing, who would think a six year old child would have a gun and shoot someone?
I'm not defending the AP but that is not something your mind automatically goes too. She should have checked out the situation in any case. When you have several adults coming to you with a problem. You check out the problem!
And also I wonder if the parents will be held accountable? They just convicted two parents in a different older child shooting case.
Yes, in Michigan they just sentence a mother and father of a 16 year old who shot and killed 4 students in 2021 and injured 7 others. The son is serving life and the parents got 10 to 15 years.

Yes, that's the one. It has to happen.

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes, the 21 month sentence was for federal charges of the unlawful use of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm and making a false statement while purchasing the firearm – as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. She was sentenced to 21 months on each count, and the judge ordered them to be served concurrently.
She was additionally sentenced to two years on the state felony child neglect charges followed by two years of probation. The state sentence will begin when she is released from the federal sentence.

What I don't understand is how a six year old can carry a gun from his house to school and no one noticed. Was he concealing the gun? The parents should be held liable because it was irresponsible of them to not pay attention to what their child was doing.
@lgfan - The news reports say he took the gun from his mother's purse and concealed it in his backpack.
However, someone reported that he told other students he had a gun once he got to the school and the assistant principal did nothing. In this day and age, that's inexcusable. She apparently said his "pockets" were "too small to conceal a gun".
But almost every child these days uses a backpack. Isn't that the first place someone in authority should check? Isn't that where Ethan Crumbley concealed the gun he used to kill four students?
Total disregard for safety and dereliction of duty. Not to mention hubris.

'You know'.......a couple of months ago, while showering (where I do a lot of thinking, for whatever reason)......I was trying to figure out how we can try to prevent future school shootings.....without a lot of bantering and polarization among parents, and people in general.
At that time, I thought: How about requiring students to carry clear plastic backpacks. ?
Especially in elementary schools where kids' 'privacy' wouldn't be a major issue.
Manufacturers would be happy to manufacture clear backpacks at a range of affordable prices.
And, possibly community folks could donate clear backpacks for those who cannot afford them.
Oh, well.......just a previous thought, and since this thread 'showed up'........

People would find ways around a clear backpack. People can still wrap guns with towels and blankets.

I was just reporting what the Today Show aired in their report this morning around 7:20am.
Words matter. A more accurate title would be that she has been found negligent by the court.
YES, Words do matter. I just posted what at 7:21am eastern time, the Today Show said, nothing more nothing less. Wasn't trying to be political. I do not belong to any political sites.
This was their headline, not mine, I borrowed it.

I went to check the recording and indeed you correctly reflected what was on the screen and what was said. They kept this title glued to the screen.
I apologize for directing my criticism at you. The show choose this sloppy presentation.
The lesson is that NBC should not be relied on for accurate, precise and complete coverage.
