Re: Asking for Prayers...Job Interview Tomorrow

The job market is not happening for older people. They want cheap help and entry level people that are willing to work for less than nothing. I have found that I do not fit the employee profile they are willing to hire. Do not get depressed--keep active. If it was not for my dog that keeps me laughing I would probably be in the dumps. I have tried and tried and thought many interviews went well but to no avail. They act like they think you are qualified and then someone comes along with less experience, cheaper and younger. You are now at the bottom of the list. It is an employer's market. Keep your chin up and keep strong. You can not make people hire you. Just do your best. I keep seeing the same job ads.

Re: Asking for Prayers...Job Interview Tomorrow

In general, some employers would rather hire folks who will accept the lowest salary. They would rather have another employee train the new employee. 'Used to be' that it cost more to train and re-train, so companies preferred to keep experienced employees for thirty+ years. Not so much, anymore.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

LeoGrl, I have a family member going through the same thing and it is UGLY. Right hand to God - I will pray for you.

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

Hi Lynn - I had my interview yesterday afternoon. It went better than I initially anticipated since I had to really push hard out the anxiety and up my confidence level. It was a small office but the two individuals I would be working for were nice and professional (whew, what a relief). My only concern would probably be the salary. I was put on the spot near the end of it about my salary requirements. It was one of those awkward moments where I knew I could either blow it at this point or save it. They never mentioned anything related to benefits and I did not ask since I know they say never to bring up benefits on the first interview. Anyway, I gave a broad range towards salary to them. I couldn't read their faces and I honestly don't know whether the range was acceptable to them or not (and the range I gave was below my last full-time salary and experience).

So once again it's the wait and see if you get a phone call or not. I know the drill. LOL! I'm trying to stay positive and I really don't know one way or the other. The new working world (as you and so many people know) is get them cheap these days. So, I just have to wait but keep on applying. Thank you for your continued prayers and will do the same for you!

Re: Asking for Prayers...Job Interview Tomorrow

LeoGirl; I totally understand about salary, that's a tough one. I interviewed yesterday for a job at our local hospital. Position is ward clerk or some hospitals call it unit secretary. I got the interview because a good friend of mine is a good friend of the hiring manager. She offered me the position and I accepted it with no idea what the pay will be!!! That may sound crazy but I don't have money for house payment and car after July. The RN hiring manager said HR would contact me with the pay rate. I'm a licensed nursing home administrator, four years and have had LPN since 1982. Here's the problem with my LPN experience: I have been in administration or management the last 20 years, no recent direct care. I am not current or up to date with meds, treatments, etc. The RN manager said she can only recommend they give me credit for the full 32 years I've had my LPN. If they do give me full credit I'll still be making about half what I've been making the last 10 years . In addition, I am 61 years old I know I cannot work the floor pushing the med cart alone would put me down. If I can get credit for full 32 years, I say praise The Lord!!! If I can only get credit for half that, I say praise The Lord!!! Somehow I will make that income work! I will be able to make house, car payments, pay car insurance, keep utilities on, and eat. My credit cards are maxed out, my car air conditioner compressor went out. I'm using the last of my available credit to fix it, $969.00. Last night the thermostat in my house started acting crazy. It's digital I don't know how to describe what it is displaying, the air is still cycling on/off but I know that will have to be checked soon and fixed. If this job you interviewed for pays enough to keep from drowning I'd have to consider it. Only you can make that decision, I will pray hard for it to be what you need and want!!! Lynn
