@x Hedge  Don't know where you live, but find it unlikely that everyone uses such poor grammar. Sure you don't receive eye rolls or giggles?

I have always said p-can.  I never heard anyone say it any other way.

In Houston & Southeast Texas, we say puh-KAHN.  Anything else just sounds ignorant to us, especially PEE-can or any variation on that.

We are in the heart of puh-KAHN country, surrounded by generations-old orchards throughout many counties all the way to Central Texas, with community names like Orchard, Old Orchard, Pecan Grove, etc.

The Texas State Pie?????

Pecan Pie!

The Texas State Health Nut?????

Pecan!

The Texas State Tree?????

Pecan!

Texas even boasts the World's Tallest Squirrel Statue, at the Berdoll Pecan Candy and Gift Company located near Austin.

They even have a 24/7 pecan pie vending machine, just in case of a pecan emergency!

So if you say anything other than puh-KAHN, you don't know nuttin' 'bout pecans!  Just sayin'!   😉

I think I say it both ways.  Pee can or Puh con.  But if I had to pick one I probably say Pee can - but I'm from the NE part of the country.

But I say Ta May Toe not Ta Mah Toe nor Ta May Da.  Cat Tongue
