It depends on the context.  Overall, I'd have to say no.

people seem to over think what terms others use, even when no offense is intended.

@Imaoldhippie I have to say something I often think about when I see your quote.  I think:

Fear is incomplete knowledge.  Except when see you are in the middle of the tornado warning on the radar. Woman Surprised

It's better than being called *trashy*.

I think the question should be "do you mind occasionally being called....." I have occasionally been called "hon" or "honey", but never "babe". Honestly, the people who called me honey didn't do so in a demeaning way, and I didn't get offended. How often does this happen to you? If it's one person, then we deal with it or walk away. I can't imagine it happening more often and by a number of people! JMO.

@Imaoldhippie Well, you got the joke then!  Why do we live here?  Ever ask yourself that when the sirens are going off, or a storm spotter is parked in front of your house??????  Woman Wink

Of all the things that I am worried about in these wacky, crazy times we live in - someone calling me a term of endearment might just be at the bottom of the list.

I had to smile when I read your post because there's a young Filipino girl who works at our local Wendy's drive-thru.  If she's on duty when we stop there she always greets me with " How are you doing, Mama" or "You look so nice today, Mama".

The first time she called me that I was a little surprised and didn't know what to say.  Then I realized it is a name that they use most likely as a part of their culture.   She is so sweet and friendly that there is no way I would be offended.

@J Town Girl

A former neighbor of mine used to say that a lot, and I found it offensive .... and I can't even tell you why!  LOL   I guess because she also said it to strangers now and then, and knew nothing about them.  What's up with that?

I finally decided that, when it comes to being offended, sometimes it's the person, sometimes it's the word ... and sometimes it's the planets that day.  LOL

The OP didn't ask whether anyone was worried; she just asked "Do you like being referred to as "babe" or "hon" by another woman?"
