Doesn't bother me; it's just the way some people talk.

As long as they are not said/meant in a sarcastic or demeaning manner it's fine.  There are norms in different parts of the country that are not meant to offend. I don't sweat the small stuff.

I've been called both, by both, and it doesn't bother me at all.

My view is that "most" stuff like this is demeaning if you take it that way.

And, hon, to demean me you 'gotta go some!  So that makes it not often a problem!

I've been called "mama" in the hospital after surgery.  I think these were Filipino women.

I find it cringeworthy coming from a woman or man.  It's overfamiliar and presumptuous.

Down here (in the South), we tend to use terms of endearment such as Hon, Sweetie, Sugar, etc. and most people are not offended at all.

With that said, however, I can't stand to be called "Babe" or even worse, "Baby" by another woman - It really grates my nerves to no end. Woman Sad

The Hubby doesn't even call me Babe, but if he did, it wouldn't bother me...

Now, if a random or casual male acquaintance did, I definitely wouldn't like it.

I don't mind Hon but would prefer not to be called Babe.  However, I don't lose sleep over it.
