Arrest in the Long Island Serial Killer Case. This is also known as the Gilgo Beach murders. The suspect is identified as 59 yo Rex Heuermann. A ping coming from the cell phone of one of the victims helped lead investigators to the suspect. The suspect lives approximately 15 miles from Gilgo Beach. It's been reported that the suspect is an architect and lives in his home with his wife, son and daughter.

@Mz iMac @Hi Mz iMac. I'm linking you to Wikipedia because this case is so full of information. Bodies and body parts showed up in the Long Island area for years. The bodies were mostly female, including a little girl, but there is an Asian male that was found wearing women's clothing. Some of the bodies were found in burlap bags. Some of the bodies were divided with remains found in two counties. This case is one of the most heavily reported, widely publicized unsolved serial killer cases ever. Law enforcement has been hunting the perpetrator for years. One woman, Shannon Gilbert, a zex worker, called 911 from a home where she was supposed to see a client. She then began to freak out calling 911. At the time she had her friend and driver waiting outside the home. Shannon became irrational with 911 and was not found that night. She suffered form mental illness as did her sister and mother. Since the time she was found, both her mother and sister have passed away. It was thought that her erratic behavior that night could have been due to this. She ran from the house and disappeared. Her client was not officially considered a suspect in the murders after many years of scrutiny, same for her driver. Her body was recovered, I think the next day. It has never been determined whether she was a victim of the serial killer, but the search for her caused police to discover some of the bodies left by the LISK. Some of the remains in the area had been discovered in the years before this but were not linked. Shannon's death was ruled death by misadventure and not murder. I think here were 11 more victims, but I'd have to check. one victim was a child that was linked by DNA to a victim with a tattoo that was given the name Peaches, referring to her tattoo. There have been TV shows and movies about the case. The bodies were recovered in heavy brush full of poison ivy over a stretch of miles along the coast. Most of the coastal area where bodies were found is called Gilgo Beach. Most of the bodies have been identified. Law enforcement has posted photos of some of the tattoos on the victims to help with their identification. They have also posted a photo of part of a leather belt with a unique handmade set of initials on it in hopes that a member of the public might recognize who it belones to. In the long course of these investigations some members of law enforcement have had legal problems of their own and have also lost their jobs due to a variety of behaviors. There's way, way more so check this out for a fairly extensive overview.

I've been watching on and off on Fox news. How horrible, but glad they have a suspect. Maybe some closure for the families of these young people.

I was just reading about this arrest because it popped up as a news headline on my computer screen. So strange that this guy lived in a rundown, ramshackle house in an otherwise nice neighborhood, but left every morning in a suit and tie, carrying a briefcase to go to his office in the city. Neighbors who were interviewed kept their distance because things seemed "off" to them.

Whenever I see articles about long time serial killers that have families I always wonder ..... didn't his wife suspect anything was "off" about her husband?

@Tinkrbl44 BTK's wife did not know he was a killer, however, she found him engaged in some behaviors that troubled her greatly and she was going to leave. He would dress up in odd outfits and do things to himself with ropes. She made him promise he wouldn't do these things anymore and she believed he had stopped until she walked in on him. She also found photos of him doing these highly unusual things.
Ted Bundy's girlfriend tried to turn him in because of her suspicions. She was finally able to get her point across to police. She kept hearing news reports about a guy with a VW that was being sought in connection with crimes and she became suspicious, because as more reports came in, the more they matched Ted.
